Listening to tonight (Part 2)

OK, that is out of my system! I think it’s time to do a deeper dive into The Pineapple Thief. It’s a big catalog and a band that has seen changes over time. But instead of doing some chronological thing, I’m going full random! And I am starting with this one, with Gavin Harrison on drums. This should be fun…

This is my favorite from Animals As Leaders, too. It might not be as musically sophisticated or polished as some of their later work, but it has a certain raw energy to it that I find really engaging.

Frankly I don’t get all the ire and criticism. I am having a good deal of fun with this album. It’s like dialing the way back machine and getting to experience that classic style of rock song structure again. I loved it back then and I love it now. And I really like their interpretation and energy. For the record, I think Josh Kiszka has an amazing voice. Anyway, thanks for the rec, man. Great listen.

He really does though. I even read an interview with Robert Plant where he calls Kiszka “One hell of a vocal talent” and mentions that he’s flattered that people think they sound similar. I thought the way he handled the question and answer was very classy and gracious. I don’t understand the pretentious haters and their problems with GVF either. Personally, I think they’re cool and I enjoy listening to their music and I’m glad you dig it too. If I had to describe it I’d say it’s Led Zepplin modernized for the 21st century and injected with an abundance of youthful enthusiasm.

I’m currently listening to the ThieAudio Prestige driven by my Cayin N8ii which is providing the entertainment for yet another listening session gone into the wee hours.

On deck in the queue is a gem from 2009, 230503 by Anubis. This is a great album. Fun, refreshing, lyrically catchy, but with plenty of the prog musical techniques Anubis is known for. I dig this band and, although this isn’t their most polished or sophisticated album, it’s definitely one of my favorites from them. It has a certain energy that appeals to me and gets me involved in listening from the jump.

Edit: I may have put this rec up before because I have listened to it a couple times recently. So sue me…:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Nice. This one looks good too. However, after this jolt from GVF, I have the need to Queue up some early Rush. I’m trapped in a time warp! :sunglasses:

I think a nice cool down before bed would be good. I think this one will do nicely.

The new Wood Brothers album is out today! These guys have been one of my favorite bands for the past decade. Chris Wood is such a monster bassist.

Tidal > iFi Gryphon > EA500

PS: Meh. The album seems a little slow to me. Not my favorite. I’m a little disappointed.

So. Enjoy this. Greensky Bluegrass playing Pink Floyd.

Nice to see Billy Cobham gettin’ some love on here. One of the best fusion drummers around. His 2016 album with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band, Broad Horizon, is a damn cool album that I only came across pretty recently. Cool jazzy, funky songs from beginning to end. I have no idea how I missed it for so long, but it’s very good and the production quality on it is top shelf.

As a matter of fact, I’m gonna have a listen to that myself right now. Should be the perfect album to relax to while I try to chill and maybe fall asleep before the sun is all the way up. For this one, I’m going with the SoftEars Twilights on my Cayin N8ii.

Edit: For anyone who checks this album out, Billy lays down a sick solo on the second track, Cat in the Hat. I mean, the whole album is full of him doing his thang, but on his solo section a couple minutes in he’s doing different beats to different time sigs with different limbs at the same time. Ridiculously good drumming!

BTW, do you have the US release (10 tracks) or the UK/Int’l release (6 tracks, IIRC) in your queue?

You should check out this album. Absolutely killer live release of some amazing musicians, including Billy C, playing Mahavishnu Orchestra tracks and medleys. It’s so well done. If you can find the hi-res version it’s worth it!

Just doing my weekly music hunting and an old friend popped up: The Heavy. So, today I pre-bought their new album which comes out next Friday. But I did get four songs today. :+1:

My third album of theirs after Sons and The Glorious dead. Rock with some soul. Maybe soul-rock? They do have their own sound.
