I have watched their covers before. Pretty good. I really enjoyed the violin opening on the first vid.
Great Floyd cover there! :+1:

Listening to The Heavy reminded me of another old favourite of mine, Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears. I LOVED the album, Tell ‘EmWhat Your Name Is!, from 2009.
Today I ended up buying their follow up album, Scandalous (deluxe version) from 2011. A little milder than the the previous album, but still lots of head bobbin’ going on.

@Ohmboy and @ShaneD : Great album! I wasn’t around yet when classics like this were being dropped. Kinda jealous…

Yeah, I could have listened to that violin all the way through without the vocals… It was stirring…Pretty darn good musician…:+1:

Yeah sure is a great album…I wore out my first copy and had to buy another LP…
This is the Deep Purple I first started out with in grade 9 high school…We were long haired kids back in 1970…Bell bottomed jeans, tye dyed t-shirts and hair down to my belt line…

This one’s so good I had to cross post from Head-Fi:

I’ve got the DCA Expanse driven by the GS-X Mini with the Gustard R26 decoding all the bits and pieces from my laptop/Qobuz.

I’ve been on a bit of a Billy Cobham streak lately and tonight/this morning (1AM) I’ve got a 1996 album featuring Cobham, jazz guitarist Bill Blickford, and Wolfgang Schmid on bass entitled Paradox. This is a damn good fusion album with incredible playing from all three musicians. Cobham lays down some ridiculous solos at various points on the recording. I could listen to this album on repeat and catch something new everytime. That said, it’s also fairly approachable and easy to listen to for your average music buff. I can’t recommend this one any more highly! :metal::sunglasses:

Good choice, Shane! You know, that would make a great thread to start. What was the first album you ever bought? What do you think, y’all?

What might be even more interesting would be:

  1. What was the first album that you ever bought for yourself?
    And
  2. What was the last album you bought for yourself?

For me, it started with Machine Head. My “newest” buy was Scandalous by Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears (2011). But the day before that I pre-ordered the new album Amen by The Heavy, releasing this Friday.

Kind of cool to see where our musical journey has taken us.

I think that is a great idea. I just went through the entire Music Talk area as I didn’t want to create a duplicate thread, and nothing was found. So I will give it a go!

This one has a bit of “neil young feel” … just lacking a bit distortion on the guitar, the rest feels very young

Good stuff! I love me some Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears! Good music with lyrics that’ll have you laughin’ the whole album through.

This morning I have the modded Letshuoer S12s in, being driven by the Cayin N8ii as I kit it laid back and low key.

I mentioned Return to Forever on here the other day when @Ohmboy mentioned their drummer Lenny White. Well, that led me to put a collection of Return to Forever live tracks released in 2012, entitled The Mothership Returns, in my queue for later listening when the time was right. Well, that time is now! :metal::sunglasses:

Side note on the S12s: When you push the pinna gain region up just a little bit to get rid of the shout, bring the treble down ever so slightly to reign in a little excess brightness, and tune the bass to your liking these things really become monsters. Retuning the top end in the ways mentioned really reveals a whole lot of underlying low level detail that can get lost when things get to shouty or bright. The dynamics pick up significantly and feeding them with a little extra juice is rewarded with a clean and balanced overall signature that is both very detailed and very non-fatiguing at the same time. If you’re willing to spend 30 minutes modding the S12s, they’re one of the best deals in audio, IMO, capable of performing with sets that are much more expensive. That’s what starting with a quality driver and a simple design does for you! :+1::sunglasses:
