The Blue Stones are one of my favorites. Their latest album from back in November, Pretty Monster, isn’t my favorite, but even at that it had some very cool songs on it. Had another band released that album, I’d look on it as a big success, but The Blue Stones have set the bar very high for themselves. Black Holes and Hidden Gems were both very strong albums that I really dug.
TBF, others might like Pretty Monstsr more than I did. Their sound has been taking more and more from the hip hop influences and that’s not always my favorite thing, but I can see others liking that more than I do and thus, liking some of the tracks on PM more than I do. Still, any session with The Blue Stones in the queue is a good sesh indeed!
Awesome! I’ll thank you on behalf of them and musicians everywhere. Purchasing the music of artists you listen to regularly is still, hands down, the best way you can support them. Streaming pays (some platforms better than others), but purchases put more money in the artist’s pockets and are much more meaningful for RIAA certifications which can also have big effects on helping the artists commercially.
To make this topical, I’m currently rocking the TRI i3s (OG) being driven by my Cayin N8ii. The i3s have been a staple of my rotation since I got them i December. The crazy lookin’ graph has kept them from being as popular as I think they would otherwise be and it’s a shame because the graphs just don’t give you an accurate picture of the sound on these.
On deck in the queue this afternoon is a 2002 release entitled Resensitize by Frequency Fall. This album reminds me of what grunge might have become had the genre incorporated some prog influences. The album has a very 2002 feel to it and I dig it!
I buy ALL my music. With iTunes, the rights holder gets 70%, I believe. That can be the band or the record label, depending on the deal the band has.
The only time I really rip off the musicians is buying used CD’s. They get nothing from that.
And I really do wonder about the 50’s and 60’s jazz music. Who’s getting that money? Too many compilations look like someone put together some music, released it and hopes nobody notices. A lot of those artists are dead and I wonder if the family of lesser known artists gets anything.
That’s awesome! As for who’s getting the money from those classic jazz albums it depends on whether the musicians retained their rights to the songs (many didn’t back then). If they didn’t, then whatever record company holds the rights in their catalog with get the money for the most part unless another label has purchased distribution rights for a specific release, like a remaster, anthology, or greatest hits album, in which case they’ll get a piece based on their agreement with the catalog owner.
Thanks again for supporting the artists you listen to!
Currently listening to a friend’s MMR Thummims running off my Cayin N8ii and I have to say, these IEMs are ridiculously fun and engaging to listen to. Very cool and quite special.
I’m about three quarters of the way through Wheel’s 2019 effort, Moving Backwards. I just picked this album because it seemed like the kind of hard rock/metal kinda music that would be killer on the Thimmims and I was not wrong. The stage is huge, detail retrieval is top notch, and the bass is powerful. Overall this is a great album that plays right into the wheelhouse of these IEMs. I’m having a great sesh with these bad boys!
Good Eve. What better way to cap a good day’s work and an excellent meal than some tunes. I’m checking out the rec that the good Mr. Anonymous posted and it’s a good one. Definitely hittin’ the spot.
Happy Friday everyone. Today is the day. 36 years My Wife and I have been together. Pretty amazing. It sure doesn’t seem like it. I’ve been thinking about our wedding day all day! Her in that dress - I remember it like it was yesterday. Pretty amazing. Anyway…
Because of all that romancy stuff I’ll be starting off a little differently tonight. This is really good, that final piece in particular. The whole ensemble really gets it together and Ms. Hahn rocks the place. Strong finish. You see a lot of joy in the players. Very nice.
Congratulations to you and the Mrs. Thirty-six years of love and partnership is an accomplishment to be proud of. I wish you guys many more years of health, happiness, and love!
To keep this topical, I’m having a little post show balcony listening sesh. I’ve got myself a glass (or three) of Ardbeg Uigeadail single malt and my ThieAudio Prestige plugged into the Cayin N8ii which is serving up the hi-res entertainment.
As for music, I’m listening to a new rec I just picked up over on Head-Fi that I’m enjoying immensely at the moment, a 2012 release entitled Cognitive by a prog-metal outfit named Soen. I had these guys favorited on Qobuz, but I don’t recall listening to any of their music. Clearly, that was a mistake because these dudes are pretty damn good and they fit a wee hours listening session on a dark balcony PERFECTLY!
Edit: P.S. Hilary Hahn is ridiculously talented. Her playing is a wonderful combination of elite technical skill and emotive touch. Very moving to listen to, but also very powerful.
I enjoy watching Hillary Hahn play. Her bow control (for lack of a better term) is off the charts. The way she can drop herself in and out so seamlessly just blows my mind. I like how she connects with the orchestra as well. It’s nice to be able to actually see it, too.
