Luxury Precision P6/P6 Pro R2R DAP

Hahaha. No worries at all. You’ve been a massive help thus far in building my excitement, lol

Sooooo some gripes today. Found out that they still haven’t fixed the usb dac problems. Still locked at 16/96khz in windows. I thought it was fixed as I had been playing 24 bit tracks with wasapi on and was pretty happy, but then I realized I had been using wasapi shared by accident, and it will still not play 24 bit files in exclusive which is extremely irritating… Another usb gripe is that it doesn’t seem to work on my phone either as a usb dac, so that’s unfortunate (but this to me is something I wouldn’t do often so it’s fine imo)

2nd, gapless playback isn’t a thing. This doesn’t matter at all for some albums, but for others feels pretty crucial imo (at least to me)

Really hope these will be addressed in a future firmware update, along with the track limit lol

These two things are universal complaints from the community and I hope they put both high on their priority list, with a third being the track limit.

Whats the track limit at now? IIRC it was ~10k, right?

Also, I just realized I haven’t asked. What’s your inpression on the different filters/settings on the pro?

It’s at 12k now I believe

I use NOS mode instead of the filters personally, and I haven’t messed around with the eq presets either

I do the same. I liked NOS mode the best and don’t personally use any filters or EQ.

The filters kinda reduce some of the aspects I like about the player so I didn’t feel like using them all too often lol, feels more correct in nos mode

Awesome. Just figuring out where to start. I’ll play with the filters eventually, but want to get a couple weeks of listening in first. NOS was my assumption too, so good to hear it confirmed.

Oops, I missed this previous message sorry. I personally have not heard MEST and I know it gets a lot of hype. From the descriptions, I know it doesn’t really fit my tastes. My end game right now is Fourte Noir and Infinity MK2. They both cover everything I would ever want (for the time being).

I’ve demoed a mest, and I did like it but wasn’t too blown away or anything, but it was a solid iem, can’t say how it would be on the p6 though, but I highly doubt it wouldn’t be satisfactory lol

I’m really finding myself coming back to 3 iems to cover all my bases, the infin mk2, mmr thummim, and obravo eamt-1 c (final lab ii honorable mention lol), and they all happen to sound excellent on the pro, so I really might be slimming down what I have for portable source gear an iems lol (I already have been to some extent since I first got the p6 and first got the mk2), can’t say my other portables have been getting as much usage ever since I first got the p6 and now the pro further reduces the time I spend with them lol

Edit: in fact, I actually might try to offload my QPM to a friend now since it really didn’t get that much playtime since the p6, and I don’t foresee it getting any more with the pro in house lol

Content is a rarely used word at times. Life is a little nicer when you step back fir a little and realise things are pretty good

So,
If you are not an iem user, and speaking very generally knowing what you know, would you take a p6 or p6 pro over a spring 2 kte for desktop use?

Would the p6s be good enough to eclipse the kte + gsx mini combo, either by itself or the dac part paired with a gsx mini?

Or does it all come down more to sound preference than technical ability?

For the stock p6, prob not, but for the pro, potentially depending on the amp you pair with it

I think the pro could replace the spring and be a slight bit more satisfactory than the spring (but again trade blows) with the gsx, for replacing the entire stack that would depend on what you are running, for most iem’s I’d rather have the pro but for headphones that really depends on the headphone

It comes down to synergy, technical ability, and preference in the end, so basically all of the above

Also, please keep in mind that both P6s in its current state is very limited in regards of desktop setup. Until we get a firmware update, there is still the track and bitrate limits. Mine has certainly replaced my desktop, but I try to keep most of my critical listening to offline files.

I was just going to mention that, that the spring has a massive advantage for desktop use and that’s the fact that USB allows for high bitrates and samplerates and dsd to be properly passed (can play them just fine as a player, just a limitation with usb atm), which in current form, the p6 pro cannot do

I thought P6 and P6 Pro were limited to 24 bit by a limit of the ladder. Does it go higher on local playback?

They are 24 bit ladders, that’s not something to worry about since 32 bit doesn’t matter for playback and isn’t going to be something music is distributed in anyways, I’m just saying the spring has the benefit of not being fucking locked at 16 bit as a usb dac lol

Oh. I read the previous comment too fast. I thought it was capped at 96/24 on usb, not 96/16
