Luxury Precision P6/P6 Pro R2R DAP

I mean hifiman is prob shooting for portable susvara with the he-r10p (well kinda but not quite), but I have a feeling that you won’t be doing anything portable with the susvara for a long long time

Portable final d8kp, diana phi, utopia, mysphere 3.2 (or 3.1) is feasible though and those are pretty high preforming, but all of them can further improve on desktop gear to a substantial margin

Edit: HE1000se would also make sense

Amp first in this case imo

Well thats a shame

Someone could manage if they went DMP-Z1 size. You know, to fit the car battery you’d need…

Huh. Ok. New plan then. I’ll probably just make a dedicated thread once Ive read up more on the dozen or so options you’ve thrown out there for me. Where would you say is kind of the minimum that would be a distinct step up from the BL?

It’s just a software limitation, I’m sure it will be updated in the future, but that’s more of a hope not expectation

Possibly yes, but it would still be likely that you could get a fair bit more out of them on some desktop setups since they scale so well

Portable wise or desktop gear? And which headphone would you want to prioritize?

Oh, 100%. As is always the case with portable tbh

Portable (or at least enough to use on the couch and move between rooms). As for which headphone, honestly, probabaly the mests as of right now, but clears and Xs arent too far behind. I would like to be able to run arya as well if at all possible just due to how much people pretyy universaly gush over it. My problem is I don’t have a permanent desk to be able to have a desk setup so whatever system I have it has to be movable.

Honestly I would grab a paw 6000 since it works well with the mest and actually pretty decent for the clear, and then add a nice portable amp later on imo for the arya (and also the clear too) at a minimum

That new Cayin C9 would work well there with it’s 4.1 w Tube or SS output :+1:

Haha. Sounds like my head was in the right place then. Paw 6k was my initial plan.

Just to make sure. The general advice is to prioritize amp over dac, right? Aka, upgrade path would be P6000 → real solid potable amp → upgraded source?

I have been drooling over that one tbh. Pretty sure nutoobs have issues with interference though, don’t they? Even still, yah, that thing looks awesome

A P6 Pro review…

Curruous question for @M0N

I am pretty sure you said earlier in the thread yoy heard the LP6Ti. If so, from memory, how does that sound vs P6 with BX2Plus? I’m pretty currioua if the stage expansion and imaging people say it does better is purely just having more power or if it actuaky comes down to dac implementation

I haven’t heard the LP6Ti, it was discussed above but I hadn’t heard it, I think someone else had on headfi

Ah, got it. Must have just misread above

Aaaaaand it’s here, finally got my pro in, excited. So far the ui is almost the same but a bit easier to navigate, I’m sure the touch screen will be a godsend for some, but personally I didn’t have issues with the interface of the p6 that much either, well now to get some listening in. For the short amount of time I have listened to it, it already feels like it’s burned in actually so that’s nice but you never know lol

crazy stoked to here your impressions. wierd about already sounding burned in though. Dont they do a whole board swap with the upgrade?

Yeah, I wonder if enough people complained about burn in times and also if the better component matching (so higher attention qc) has anything to do with it. So far I’ve had it on for a few hours and outside of the first 30 min it hasn’t changed all that much (as the player warmed up), perhaps the burn in could be longer term changes and not as immediate. With what I’m hearing now there could be some things that change with burn in later on (similar traits to the p6 that changed with time) but it doesn’t seem as extreme as the p6 when I first got it. I just recall the p6 changing a fairly large amount in the first few hours and continuing to change

Yes, all internals are replaced

So far the sound is very promising

burring them in at the factory makes a lot of sense at this price point. i cant imagine they are shifting enough units for it to be a significant overhead/holdup tbh.

I just scanned the thread, so sorry if I missed it, what were the main changes on the P6 with burn in?

I don’t really know if I explicitly said it since most of the posts I’ve made are more just random thoughts and observations I had at the time. Mainly that at first treble was somewhat harsher or grainy, felt unrefined and meh, but that improved overtime (that might have been the most immediately noticeable change and continued to be prominently changing the most kinda roller coaster there), it was a bit forward leaning overall but eventually became more relaxed (this was more gradual), timbre at first was good but got noticeably better after some use but after that remained normal, and I think the most long term change was how it gradually got better and better when it came to dynamics.

So far out of the box the pro hasn’t had really much change when it comes to treble, and it more resembles the fully burned in p6. I can tell so far that microdynamics do tend to be getting better, and the player is sounding more organic as I continue but it’s def not as drastic as the non pro.

To actually comment on the sound, I’ve so far mainly been using it as a dac into various desktop amps (but did try the internal amp with some things), and first impressions are mainly: wow lol. It has a very very similar tonal balance and signature to the p6, but it’s a decent step up when it comes to technicalities.

Some big stand outs when it comes to performance so far (from memory of the p6):

  • dynamics: it’s another step up from the p6, it has really impressive microdynamics so far that I don’t think I’ve heard from another dap before (I mean the p6 was already that way but this is just the next tier)
  • bass control, grip, and texture: the bass feels like it really improved to where texture is much more noticeable and a bit less soft and hazy, it feels like it has much more to throw around while having a firmer grip on things as well, and did I mention better texture lol?
  • stage: it’s width and depth are more impressive and immersive to me from memory vs the p6, it feels more organic and accurate in placement as well
  • microdetail and layering: it is a direct upgrade in resolution and separation, but never in your face about it

Things that feel somewhat similar or not much changed from the p6:

  • timbre: is still really organic, doesn’t feel to have taken a signfigant step forward but nor a step back in quality
  • tonal density: feels really right when it comes to fullness and richness, a fairly neutral approach with perhaps a slight bit of extra meat on the bone, but never enough to overwhelm
  • signature: still feels more like that natural-neutral type of tuning, a good balance with a slight bit of lean toward the warmer and more fun side of things, but reasonably neutral depending on how you have it configured
  • smoothness: it still feels a bit more on the slightly smoother leaning side of things when it comes to the midrange and treble, a slight bit less smooth but reasonably similar enough

Things that feel different, but not ness better or worse:

  • forwardness: so far, it feels like it’s not as relaxed as the p6 and abit more on the forward side of neutral, but it’s not to the point where it’s shoving things in your face, not sure how I feel about this one as I kinda liked it’s slightly less forward nature of the stock p6

These traits remain somewhat similar when using it as a line out to other amps or using it as a standalone dap

I haven’t had enough time to come to any conclusion with confidence, but so far this really seems like more than a marginal step up and was totally worth the extra cash in a heartbeat

Man. This is going to be nutty on the Inf MK2

That was the first thing I grabbed when it came to an iem to try on it, indeed very nutty lol

It sounds like it brings out everything the MK2 excels at.

Ah and I forgot to mention the background, when using it as a dap, the background feels more vacant and black with some of the iems I tried and the more sensitive headphones, so that’s pretty nice compared to the regular p6

Yes, although I do wish it was a hair less forward with the mk2 but for everything else this player offers I can’t really complain lol
