Magni 3+ and Magni Heresy

I could have sworn that most people disregarded Yggdrassil because of it’s measurements, and that went for both versions too. Never could find much of anything else outside of that of what other people thought about it.

Well, the measurement stuff is a different story lol

Any multibit DAC like whether they use discrete component resistor ladders, or as the Schiit stuff does 18 bit r2r chips, is probably going to measure worse than a modern Delta Sigma design.
But at those price points no one really cares about measurements unless there are gross errors.

The Gungnir and Yggrasil also both had issues with single ended outputs.
The published measurements on the Bifrost 2 surprisingly good, so I assume that Schiit are doing some sort of dithering.

All you should do regarding measurements is make sure nothing is horribly wrong, and then not really worry about them too much lol

How about latency?
I’ve heard that multibit dacs introduce enough latency to affect gaming on them. Is that true?

TBH not really anything you need to worry out. Technically they have more latency, but not really a significant amount.

Looking it up the asgard 3 with the multibit has 11ms of latency, so really nothing you could reasonably perceive unless you are like insane lol, and even then

I’d also assume most of that is in the USB interface, so you’d pay a lot of it with conventional DAC’s

ngl the Bifrost looks really nice with the tech and inputs, and how nicely it stacks with the Asgard, but that price is hecking painful to swallow lol

Yeah, I would just go for the Asgard 3 with the multibit card tbh, the stack ain’t worth

Why no one has done a youtube video on these amps!

I’m working on a written review of the heresy. I’ve been trying to do video as well but I’ve got so much going on it’s hard to get time to edit them. I’ll have the review up next week, but if you have a question in can maybe answer it.

I’m working on the review now. I’ve listened to the Magni 3 and Magni 3 Heresy.

Heresy is unquestionably a better sounding amp. If you have to have a Shiit amp and low on funds buy a Magni 3 if you can still get it on sale.

If you want the best sounding Magni made thus far the Heresy is the only choice. If you said you told me you have power hungry headphones and you want to get a THX amp I’d tell you buy the Heresy… Full stop

to be honest the fact they are giving 2 options plus the question of “what would you prefer a discrete amp or a opamp based amp” has made it super confusing to me… i was pretty certain i could easily just buy a schiit magni to replace the cheap powered speakers i never use (i literally only use them as an amp and headphone jack for my turntable… im in upgrade mode and want to buy 2 new headphones and amp/amp-dac combos to run them). but now i dunno if i should instead just go with an JDS atom or something because i just need a good amplifier and the fact that now you expect someone who is just cheap and wants a good amp to know this stuff is frustrating

Hmm well the main difference between the heresy and the 3+ is that the heresy is more analytical and going for transparency, while the 3+ is going for a more enjoyable (to schiit) sound. I think if you wanted analytical the schiit heresy or atom is the way to go. If you wanted a more warm and smooth sound the liquid spark amp is the way to go imo

i definitely would probably want a warm sound… i like something with a good amount of resonance and a kind of fun feeling… i mean i got a ton of records ranging from everything from modern hip hop to experimental noise so i probably would prefer a warmer mid focused sound overall…

i also mostly just want this so i can buy better headphones (m50s suck i hear and so i should try open backs or even better closed backs depending on the sound leakage)

I think the monolith liquid spark is my pick for you then, I think you would really like that. What headphones are you looking at?

i’m thinking of trying open backs for the first time… my major fear is that i live with family and i feel embarassed with them hearing all my music (i always have my room closed but i get paranoid). so either i will try to get a better brand of closed back, or going with something like a hifiman 4XX (i am cheap and i want something versatile, i thought about grados to go with my grado cartridge but i hear they suck for hip hop and electronic music)

So you would prob enjoy the 4xx for sure, would be a pretty great experience imo. You could get a closed back if you want, something like the dt770 250 ohm sounds up your alley for when you want something closed. Just to check, what do you want sound wise with these headphones? And what budget?

plan on using that for a laptop setup with a portable dac so that was already planned

i seem to definitely like mids and bass, highs i dont really care about that much (apparently with the meme50s i only have 12Khz of hearing)… especially like the tactile sounds like the strumming of a string or the bass of

probably around under 200 for the headphones, 300 for the DAC/AMP and turntable amp combined

not buying immediately just because i am awaiting a job coming in a while… yeah im mostly getting my hopes up but i mean i can dream and i like buying stuff in the future
