Magni 3+ and Magni Heresy

Is that 200 per headphone or combined?

per headphone, if i remembered the beyerdynamics were in the 150 range and the hifiman 130 range so perfectly good for me

You know what, you might enjoy the audioquest nighthawk carbon, as it has a very smooth and rich midrange with great bass response with slightly subdued highs. Also is semi open, so it sounds wide on the inside but isolates and doesn’t leak noise. It is very comfortable too. Right now they are on an all time low sale for 200 (not on amazon tho). It is fairly polarizing to some, with some loving it and some really disliking it, so the tuning is a hit or miss, but if you end up really enjoying the tuning it would be a great choice (I think it sounds up your alley). Another benefit is that it can be run from a phone or pc just fine, where with the 4xx you may want an amp

hmmm… thats actually a great idea… and with that i might even be able to go with just one headphone for both systems (my laptop with a portable DAC/AMP and my turntable) instead of 2 separate like i planned, thanks

Yeah if you ended up liking the sound, it pairs well with something like the dragonfly red or dragonfly cobalt if you wanted to up the sound quality more in the future. Of course there are other options out there too, I just think the nighthawks are something you might enjoy. The 4xx are very good too lol, too many good options to consider. The hd58x sound up your alley as well lol

lets just hope the 250 cost on amazon lasts long enough (i mean my previous idea was around the same price and this is a lot more convinient)

This is the sale I was talking about

i already found it… but its also 250 on amazon so if either of them stay for about a month or two i will buy them ASAP

Make sure to do some more research on them too to know what you are getting, as people have differing experiences with them

Not the Carbons, but the original Nighthawks… I think Solderdude’s review and description of these is dead on accurate, worth a read:

I really hope they revise the Modi 3 soon. I so want that amazing looking Schiit Stack!

Hmm, I don’t know if I fully agree but some of the stuff on there is accurate. The carbons have a less strange signature that jives with more people

I have the Carbons and still think they’re very strange. And strange in ways that match that review. But you like the headphone more than I do… .

Anyway, you suggested duke so some more research (I believe exactly because you didn’t want him to go by your word alone, no?) And I was trying to help with the research.

I was mainly just noting that the carbons and the original are different, just as a heads up

I can readily believe that! I would like to see if and how solderdude would modify his review for the Carbons.

Would be interesting for sure, also nice that he addressed the cable and just the simple impedance difference lol, perhaps that’s why audioquest cables claim a noticable difference

As soon as a phrase begins with “audioquest cables claim…” it’s time to get earplugs!
(Edit — teasing them, not you, in case that was at all unclear).

The Modi 3 definitely needs some help… At the price is hard to call it bad… But yeah, for a few $ more you get way better sound.

They should just go to the modi 4 in the same form factor as the 3 like they have done in the past.

If they can get the modi to ENOG levels in sound quality, skip the balanced out. Price at $100 , then pair it with Heresy… it would be a really hard stack to beat even compared to stacks that cost 2 or 3 times the price…

I’m taking single ended of course.

I wonder what your thoughts on a d10 or m100 would be

I’ll reach out to topping this weekend and see if I can get one in. I’m curious too as I haven’t used any topping products other the acrylic amp stand
