You might if you blow your hearing out with the 2nd stage
That looks very nice. I have a D70 waiting to pair with mine as well. =)
Then I turned it back down to the volume I usually listen and it sounded identical to the Atom
Itās funny, I honestly donāt have any real expectations of the amp sounding really any better than the monolith THX AMP, I already ownā¦ but still very much just looking forward to having that thing hooked up, plugging headphones in and knowing I have all the headroom Iāll ever need from the cleanest source Iāll ever need. Wellā¦ maybe well beyond Iāll ever need, reallyā¦
Thatās the whole point of āendgameā if you ask meā¦more than youāll ever need, so you wonāt need anything else ever.
Iām there for amp/DAC, probably never there for headphones!!
Totally agree. Once I have my 789, Iāll be able to focus on headphones and playing with tube amps
A THX 887 for the same amount of money?
For god sakes when will an EU audio company start making THX amps, I canāt afford to pay a fortune on import duties
It will probably be easier to get a 887 over there then a 789. How easy would it be to get the monoprice thx portable? If it would be fairly easy to get that, you might be able to get the 887
If I remember correctlyā¦ a few months ago tried out the order process for the Monoprice THX DAC/AMP and saw an amount around 80 for shipment to germany.
On monday I finally get my Massdrop THX AAA 789 and will have to pay 19% tax on the 408(incl. shipment)
If I have bad luck there is another 28,50 Euro fee for DHL
A day of using it and Iām very happy. But boy, that power LED sure is teeny. I have to work to find it. Definitely a design flaw.
You might be able to put something over it to diffuse it a bit and make it more visible. Although some may see the small led as a benefit lol
THX 887 from Monoprice apparantly measures even ābetterā than the 789ā¦
Coming out next month tooā¦ differences are definitely inaudible, but itāll definitely be nice to finally have some options!
Link to the Monoprice version of this ampā¦ definitely worth keeping an eye onā¦ set to release Oct 27th.

finally my 789 arrived today
forgot my 2.5mm TRRS balanced to XLR adapter at home
my custom balanced cable for the Elegia should arrive this weekā¦
Do you notice a difference between the xdsd balanced vs unbalanced?
yes - with IEMs and my Sennheiser 660s - not so obvious like Bluetooth or wired, but yes
wonder if the xDSD to 789 will make a differnce
- have both connections: single ended 3.5>2xCinch and balanced 3,5 TRRS>2XLR ā¦ will test it the next days
Yeah sorry for the vague question I was asking balanced vs unbalanced when you are using it line out into the 789. You answered figured it out though
you got it - very good you asked again!
at the office I just used the 789 in single ended(2xCinch) today - the balanced connection waits at home
I first thought you asked for the xDSD standalone as DAC/Amp
I can mainly tell the difference between balanced and single ended with iems on the xdsd, there is a slight difference with headphones but not as much as iems
the same here - maybe with a higher resolving hf ā¦ my 660s is not the best contender for imaging, stage or detail. Maybe I can tell a difference with the balanced cable on the Elegia.
With the Tin Hifi T2Pro I can immediately tell a difference and prefer the balanced cable+adapter with it.
Stage blows out wider and the midrange is better separated somehow - if that makes sense.
With the Tin T3 it is less the effect.
I was keeping an eye out for that. unfortunately the eta was updated to ETA: 11/23/2019
The drop is still active for another couple days and it say estimated shipping 11/15.
I keep getting different answers with this but a lot of people say HE-6 is fine with 789 bal, but a few people say I need at least 3 times the power it can deliverā¦
Does anyone here own an HE-6 and 789 to confirm? or something similarly powerful.
