HE6se owner here, and I think they need more power. Even using a gs-x mk2 really isnt as good as using my parasound halo a21+ (overkill). The more you can give them the better. The bass response improves alot, and they even out a bit. The spatial image also gets improved with more power
I think the GS-X mk2 can only do 2 watts balanced? At least from specs.
And the halo a21+ is like 300 watts at 8 ohms. Which might probably be around 45-50watts at 50ohms? hmmmmm
Pretty sure it’s 5 watts into 50 ohms balanced
When I get the chance, I will see if I can try them on a friends 789 for you and see what happens. I’m expecting it to sound like the gsx, but we will see

Will let you know. The he6 is picky, but not impossible to drive. I feel that you could get something like the emotiva A-300 and a volume control and not have to worry about power (like 24 watts at 50 ohms)
Ok, went over and tried them out today on a 789 with an rme-adi 2 dac. It sounds pretty similar to my gsx. Still sounded pretty good, but imo it still needed more power to get a really satisfactory bass response can even out the frequency response. It can get really really loud, but the more power improves the headphone overall regardless of listening levels. Would be passable for sure, but imo if you want an he6 you can actually drive, perhaps check out the he5se, as it is tuned like the older hifimans (hifimen?) and is pretty great as well

have to build a stand between the sofa/listening chair for the stack

duhy im an idiot yes 789 and gsx. I’ve paid for 789 and have the gsx mini on preorder. I’m curious what the SQ between the too even though i’m not getting your amp. I still can’t believe that 789 puts out 6 watts of power with nothing under the hood. theres no tranformers and two dinky caps.
The gsx is more enjoyable to me, yet still being as transparent as the 789. But I will be getting the 888 from smsl just for the numbers

I hope you enjoy your amp more because it’s way more expensive.
It’s more because I like the tuning better, but I’m sure that plays a role lol
Do audio players like foobar and iTunes have different SQ too them? Im using the two mentioned and I feel my iTunes files sound better out of foobar2000.
The whole tuning is why I went with the mini. I’m hoping it sounds different then my pro ican.
Well the pro ican has a very warm tuning that tbh I wish I had in my collection lol, so the gsx is going to be cleaner and actually might be bright in comparison
oh that’s not good I guess i’m looking for a laid back clear sounding amp.
