Yeah the pot might have been cleaned using that spray, a simple but sometimes effective solution. Take a few days to see if that fixed it. If the issue pops up again however, consider sending to them for repairs, or maybe (and this is a stretch, but just another option), try to see if you can get a refund and get the 887 instead.
Same price, but I think the component quality is better, well besides theyāre essentially the same sound wise with some minor improvements in distortion in the 887, but about 100mW of power loss at similar loads in the 887 (Which is negligible).
Roll that option around in your head a bit, make sure that whatever option you do take is something that benefits you though. If the contact spray fixed it, then just keep the 789, and if the issue arises, well you have options.
Some very minor crackles only with IEMs persist. Not noticeable at all with full size headphones. l might be OK with this ; ]
Yesā¦ gave myself a few days to decide. Happy this didnāt happen with a $2000 amp ; ] No tears so far
Well $2000 amps generally have better pots, or possibly relay switched volume.
The volume pot is one of those things that tends to get a lot of attention in higher end gear.
The one in the 789 is on the poopy side, but there arenāt a lot of good 9mm/16mm pots, I know Schiit has alps custom make the ones in their small form factor gear.
Yeah Usually DACT or some really high end Pots, Depends on what theyāre used for, etc. Well I mean there are some really cheap Film Resistor Pots that do a bang up job however, only 21 steps but thatās quite enough.
Bought something like this for my Darkvoice and itās very well centered when listening to Mono and no Crosstalk or anything. I think the resistors on the one I bought were 0.1% though.
Too bad they didnāt put this into the 789, then again the price would go up somewhat.
Oh also the Stock Pot on the DV is 250K but for Attentuators I found 10K to work the best.
The Tone Board with the 789 sounds great to me so far. The Detail and spacious sound stage is something I do not get from my other gear. I am using HD58X headphones and the 789 really gives them something more than I have heard before from them.
The KTB is my 1st and only DAC (stand alone). I think it clean with good separation and a touch of warmth. the warmth I hear is compared to my PS Audio Spark100. The Spark is more analytical. I need some different cables to use my Micca Origen G2 and ifi nano bl as a DAC with my 789.
I have been listening/testing out my 789. I started off with the KTB as my DAC. Then I switched to using my Sprout100 as the DAC and switching between the 789 and the Sprout with my HD58X HPās.
RESULTS: Well DACās do make a difference. the only difference between the 789 and the Sprout is the THX effect. To my ears, using several different genre of music, the only difference was the spaciousness that the THX seems to add. everything else sounded the same to meā¦
Once I receive my other cables I will be doing the same comparisons using my ifi Nano BL and my Micca Origen G2 as DACās with the 789 and the Sprout100ā¦
With Amazon Global Shipping you pay an estimate of your customs taxes in advance to Amazon. You donāt technically bypass customs, Amazon just deals with them for you and there are no surprises.
Wow. Just saw the review from Zeos of the Monoprice 887. its an exact copy of the 789. Same price. same features, Same ports, even in the same place lol. Its nice to know we have this as a backup in case Drop decides to go AWOL with the 789 again.
Its so weird how this went down. Drop comes out with a revolutionary amp. All the reviews are blown away by it. To this day its still beats out all the cheaper amps even though they are scrambling to compete. But Drop just decides to not produce them for how many months? 4 months? All the sales they could have had! So strange. Unless im overestimating the market?
So anyway, they give their sales away to Monoprice who have a more expensive version 500$ the 788, and a portable 300$. neither really competes with the 789 at 400$ and we wait and wait. till finally SMSL comes to the rescue with the sp200 888 260$. its not balanced, but its cheaper and sounds just as good.
So Monoprice finally comes out with a competitor for the 789 but its kinda late to the ball game cause the SP200 is out there. Why not sell it for 350$ or something and give us a decent option? If i lost my sp200 i could get a 789, not a 887. BUT if the 887 is cheaper i would go with that. but wait, why do either? just get a another SP200 for 260$ lol idk.
True, but itās worth it.
If you canāt afford it the 789 is okay though.
But for $500 you canāt get much better.
Unless you need a ton of power, I mean a ton.
Well why get a 789 with you can get a sp200 for 140$ cheaper. 888 tech and only 260$. RNHP sounds like a moderate step up. idk. i was hoping for a bigger step up. I was looking at the Cayin ha6 but it seems to have some flaws. idk. maybe the SPL is the only real option for a step up. That Lake People amp looked good.
The RNHP is a big step up imo.
SP200 is good for the price though too I think.
But I think to get the most out of really good headphones itās great to use better amps.
