RNHP would be great. It’s amazingly detailed.
Also tubes might be fun if you want to try that.
I got a garage 1217 ember, also got a DV coming
hmm, maybe the rbhp is a good upgrade from the sp200
Yes, as long as you aren’t trying to drive something pretty power hungry, I think it would be an upgrade
SP200 has a terrible volume pot. The worst that I have ever used. Having three gain stages is a pretty big advantage. Low gain on the SP200 is not Low enough.
How does the volume pot matter?
It can affect channel balance at lower volumes, and potentially degrade the quality of sound if it’s really bad (but mainly it’s more so scratchy and irritating)
It’s usually considered a critical component in high end amps, they often go to expensive lengths to improve it. The issue is it usually sits directly in the signal path right at the input, so any noise it introduces runs through all of the amplification stages.
Usually as Mon says the obvious issues are linearity at low volume, leading to volume imbalance between the channels or noise when turning the dial.
FWIW the ENOG 2 fixes this problem, also i haven’t noticed any problems with mine ( Knock ON Wood) That said I’m normally between 9 and 12 oclock on the volume knob. So that could be why I’ve not noticed any issues.
I’m on high gain and at the 12 oclock position with volume on my thx. I’m running it balanced in and out to sennheiser 6xx and blon b20’s. Do I have a defective unit or am I missing something? I thought this thing was supposed to be a behemoth but I’m close to maxing it out
What dac are you using? You might not have a strong enough signal coming in so you would be lacking gain
I’m using the SDAC from drop
Hmmm, that’s strange that you have to get that high. On your pc do you have all your digital volumes maxed out?
I’m running +10 db on foobar and 3/4 volume. The SDAC is also outputting to the darkvoice via rca at the same time. Do you think it’s robbing signal to the thx? My darkvoice sounds fine though. It’s only on 1/3 volume
So I would check on windows that your system volume is maxed, and also perhaps try and unplug the rca and see if that makes a difference
Just tried unplugging the rca and made no difference. The volume on windows is overridden by foobar. If I max out the volume on foobar the music becomes distorted
That’s because you have the 10db boost on foobar so it will distort. Also the volume on windows is not overridden by foobar, you would want to max your master volume on windows and then control the volume through the amp
ok. I’ll try fiddling with the settings. I’ll get back to you in a bit
Yeah that’s really strange that you have so low output, so I just wonder if it’s just that the digital source isn’t loud enough
Found this video. compares it to other amps:
