Maybe for a desk setup, but I really recommend getting a good, clean source with nice power. I have mine running with an SMSL SA300 with 80W per channel, and I can really recommend them. I think they are $140, you can get them through amazon in the US or in Aliexpress worldwide. USB DAC on it is fine, but if you need SPDIF you may need another DAC. Also, I would recommend getting another DAC down the line, the difference from it’s internal one to my Element is very noticeable.

I have been using a MX3 for almost a year now and it works great with my RB42’s…

I was using MX3 for a month and felt a bit lack of power. Later upgraded to Nobsound TPA3255 (digging on audiosoundreview), sound is fuller and more energetic.

Looking to upgrade from my PA3 for a cleaner sound and lower noise floor paired with the RB42s. Been contemplating between the SMSL DA-9 or the Loxjie A30. I use the Topping E30 for DAC if that helps any. Appreciate any help!

Im running aiyima A08 fed by E30 to RB42c. Doing good so far.

Or yamaha A-S301 go through the CD input with the E30 press the pure direct button on the A-S301. 10hz-100khz 6,800uF 60w class A/B. Seen it go on sale under $300.

I see the SMSL DA-6 is on sale right now for 84$, would it be enough? It does 70W x2 (4Ω).

If you listen to them in a small room and/or at low volumes, it’s probably enough. For desktop use is probably fine too.

Its never enough lol. Maybe go with a smsl A300 so you can monoblock

Hi all. I have the rb42s and i was wondering if burson spark would be able to drive them properly for a desktop setup?i think its only 45w per channel but itis an AB power speaker amp.

I have to think that it would be fine for nearfield use at a desk, maybe up to a small room. Just keep in mind that you won’t have much headroom if you decide to use them in a larger/more demanding setting, and I wouldn’t use it to try and “shake” the room or do anything at reference levels beyond nearfield.
Hopefully someone with a Spark can chime in; I only ever ran mine off of an AD18 (~80w/4ohm/ch) and they definitely did fine in small rooms without ever exceeding maybe 30 on the volume controls.

Thank you for your input.

I was looking for a small-ish, passive set of speakers for my desk to work with my Yggdrasil + Ragnarok since my powered Kantos weren’t playing well with the options on the Ragnarok, so I picked up these Micca RB42s as they are pretty widely recommended at the <$200 price point.

They’re great!

It is genuinely baffling how good these are on a desk. I’ve considered upgrading many times to what are considered better speaker. Then I just sit there and listen to them. And immediately change my mind cause they really haven’t done me wrong to warrant an upgrade. Their small size relatively clean sound. And if you don’t ASR it and listen and bafflingly loud volumes at long period of times the treble should just be a sparkle and not be bothersome. The $150 CAD I paid for the pair when they were new was a steal and they really compete with some more expensive speakers I’ve heard somewhat recently. I think genuinely it’s biggest strength is it’s imaging and soundstaging literally the best I’ve heard under $200 more expensive speakers do this with ease. But other passives I’ve heard like a Kanto yu 2 passive and active for that matter , Sony sscs5, and some cheaper jamo don’t quite have such a defined center image nor do they have such a wide sound for it’s tiny size. While all those other speakers I named I may rate a little higher in regards to tuning depending on tastes and situations in which the setups have a subwoofer. The micca just kind of dissapears sonically more seamlessly than most budget speakers it’s wild.
