▶ Micca RB42

I too do not have the space for the open baffle stuff. I am looking at the X-LS Encore Kit. there is a guy who sells the flat-packs for the cabinets. I will have to go that route as I do not have the tools to make my own.
I was trying to buy the X-LS that were featured on New Record Day YouTube channel, but it did not work out.

So I’m having some issues with my RB42s that I’m curious if anyone else has seen. All four rounded edges on both speakers are starting to delaminate and bubble. They have been kept on my desk in a dry, climate controlled room and it is not happening with my RB42C yet.
I have contacted Micca Support but have not had a response back in 5 weeks. Has anyone else experienced this with their RB42s or have experience working with Micca Support?

Yikes, how long have you had them?

I have not had this problem with mine… Maybe Micca will replace them…

Got them at Christmas, the center channel a few months after that.

How would a100+ rb42 compare to the swam m10 and edifier rt1280 that I currently have? Would the a100+rb42 be a meaningful upgrade?

Hi all. Just chiming in on these speakers.

I’m running the SA300 connected via USB from my PC powering two RB42s for near field at my desk.

I could not be happier. I can’t stop listening to these. I’m very much a noob to “audiophile-speak” although I’ve always tried to have nice systems for listening at my desk and living-room.
The sound is very clean and three-dimensional to me. Even at low volumes it sounds “full” and complete. I had some Pioneer BS22s hooked up to the SA300 while I waited for the Miccas to come in, and to my ear it isn’t even close. Not sure how the Pioneers even get recommended without a sub. The Miccas on the other hand do a great job all by themselves.

For those of you concerned over the cost of a DAC + AMP + these, in my uneducated option the SA300 + RB42 is the best bang for your buck out there and does a great job.

I will second that. I was already happy with them using the Loxjie A10, but after changing to the SA300 I was impressed by how clean and transparent the SMSL amp is. It’s definitively staying in my desk.

I will say that getting a better DAC in the future is something I recommend. Connecting my pre-outs from the Element II made a noticeable difference in bass clarity, even in not so well recorded stuff.

Just hooked up 7 of these to my new Yamaha TSR-700 and never cease to be amazed by Micca RB 42s!

The neumibs5 are getting good reviews as a alternative to the rb42.

Hmm, what other brand models not worth the retail price? And can DSP correct flaws without turning to replacing mechanical parts out of a loudspeaker ?

DSP can help if done appropriately. But it’s not solving the basic design problems - just painting over them. Plus you’re adding extra A to D and D to A conversions so your fancy DAC is basically useless.

Is there next generation speaker technology ahead or its as good as a toaster oven is going to get ?

There are a few really crazy technologies out there but they’re very expensive. The transducer “issue” is not just a matter of technology - it’s a matter of physics. The perfect transducer has zero mass but is infinitely stiff - not possible. So it’s just a constant evolution of current tech.

Small update, I swapped my SA300 with a second hand HK 3490 stereo receiver. It’s a lot bigger, but is powering these things more appropriately @ 200w/ch in 4ohm. Loving this setup other than finding a spot for this massive amp in my office.

If you don’t have the space, the SA300 does a fantastic job and is still my default recommendation.

Yep that thing is a monster, lol. Like my Sony STR-DA5ES. I fought with and changed around setups forever & a day trying to incorporate it. But alas, I gave up. That little SA300 was a life saver.
