Only when the amp is within 87-100% of it’s power which it never is unless the house is empty and I want literally blast music and the occasional rush of the speakers breaking
That is good to know, I don’t think I’ll ever need it super loud. From your experience how is the channel balance at low levels?
Hasn’t been an issue for me… I almost always listen at low volumes
Completely clean and all good until I reach those levels . Channel balance from my experience hasn’t been an issue
that’s good, I’ll prob order one then. the channel balance on my sa 98e has been a bit of a ball breaker lately.
I am guessing that the liquid spark is out of the question for these power hungry speakers?
Liquid spark is for headphones and active speakers
The liquid spark cannot power speakers, you would want something like a topping pa3 to power speakers
Came here to say the Topping PA3 + Micca RB42 is an absolutely AMAZING combo for my desktop! (DAC is a Massdrop O2/SDAC using the RCA line-outs).
Figure I’d add my two cents: I connected by RB42s to my TV using a Topping MX3, optical input. It’s FANTASTIC. Tiny footprint and a terrific sound. Soundbar? Screw that.
Yes, the Topping can drive it, at least adequately for our small space. And the bass is amazing. I’m still tempted to get a sub, but only because I like the bass so much watching some movies that I’m hungry for more. But I DON"T NEED a sub. I could not say the same thing regarding my MB42x.
I also run a pair of RB42’s off a MX3 fed via optical from a Android TV box in my office. Works great!!
I was thinking of getting the rb42s and I need help on the amp choice. Should I go with something like the mx3 or ad18? Would you guys recommend me to get the Fosi Aduio Q5 Pro with the Fosi Audio TDA7498E mini power amplifier instead?
I do not know anything about the Fosi Audio Q5 Pro, but I have the Fosi Audio TDA7498E. I works great with Micca RB42. The Micca RB42 are power hungry and the TDA7487E have plenty of power to drive them. I would get it or if the SMSL SA-98E. They are very similar amps. I think SMSL have a better reputation than Fosi. I would go with SA-98E if you do not trust Fosi.
Well I saw that the TDA7498E has lower THD percentage so that is why I am going with that one. Which DAC are you using with the TDA7498E? What would you recommend me getting instead of the Q5 Pro?
I use the TD74498E with a Schiit Modi Multibit. it is a 2nd generation model and you can not get it anymore. I bought it a couple of years ago before I bought the amp.
I do not know if the Fosi Audio Q5 is any good or not. If I were you, I would consider looking at the Topping E30. It seems to get a lot of good reviews.
I use an MX3 on a set of RB42’s in my office, works great. RB42’s and a MX3 equals a great listening setup for less than $350.
My other set of RB42’s is ran by a PS Audio Sprout100. Sounds amazing!!! Of course a much different price range…
UPDATE: I added a Schiit Bifrost II to my PS Audio Sprout100 and RB42’s, They sound 100 times better now, Best audio system I have ever owned.
Interesting. I have the Sprout pushing a pair of Elac unifi ub5’s and I love the sound from such a simple setup. What does the bifrost 2 do to the sound that’s so dramatic of an improvement?
Elec,
The instrument separation, clarity and sound stage completely changed by adding the BF II to my source gear. (for the better to my ears). I really enjoy the Sprout100 by it self. I really got the BF II to stack with my 789 amp, but I wanted to do my initial testing with my Sprout100.
I am debating on getting some Elac’s or building some GR Research speakers…
Very interesting. I love my Sprout 100 but realize that the onboard DAC, although, it sounds very good, was probably a limiting factor. I’ve been considering the Topping D90 to replace my desktop DAC (SMSL SU-8) because the one I have clicks every time the bit rate changes. I have the Elacs as a soundbar replacement/casual listening rig in my living room and it’s a stellar setup. But, you know this hobby, you’re always tweaking something. I’ve been contemplating the GR Research speakers too. I’m really interested in the open baffle stuff but don’t have the floor space to pull them away from the wall like you should so I’ve been thinking about the X-LS Encores. Happy listening!
