That worked thanks!
Okay so for anyone that might need it, here’s a text version of the EQ profile Riku suggested that can easily be pasted into a text editor and used with EQ software:
Preamp: -1.8 dB
Filter 1: ON PK Fc 28 Hz Gain -1.5 dB Q 2.000
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 33 Hz Gain -3.8 dB Q 0.500
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 2200 Hz Gain -3.2 dB Q 2.000
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 3900 Hz Gain 1.2 dB Q 1.800
Filter 5: OFF PK Fc 4900 Hz Gain -5.0 dB Q 2.000
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 5100 Hz Gain -5.0 dB Q 2.000
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 6600 Hz Gain 3.1 dB Q 2.000
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 9300 Hz Gain -2.5 dB Q 0.700
Filter 9: ON PK Fc 10000 Hz Gain 1.8 dB Q 0.600
Filter 10: ON PK Fc 12000 Hz Gain 2.1 dB Q 1.800
Filter 11: ON PK Fc 8000 Hz Gain -4.0 dB Q 16.000
Now I took this and tweaked it a little, removing all the bass reductions and the bump at 12k because screw treble:
Preamp: -1.8 dB
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 2200 Hz Gain -3.2 dB Q 2.000
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 3900 Hz Gain 1.2 dB Q 1.800
Filter 5: OFF PK Fc 4900 Hz Gain -5.0 dB Q 2.000
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 5100 Hz Gain -5.0 dB Q 2.000
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 6600 Hz Gain 3.1 dB Q 2.000
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 9300 Hz Gain -2.5 dB Q 0.700
Filter 9: ON PK Fc 10000 Hz Gain 1.8 dB Q 0.600
Filter 11: ON PK Fc 8000 Hz Gain -4.0 dB Q 16.000
After some experimentation I also added back the 10 ohm adaptor from the Red, because no EQ shelf I played with gave quite the same thick yumminess as the adaptor.
For me, with this EQ profile and the 10 ohm adaptor the Dark Magician 2.0 becomes startlingly great, like it’s gone from something I play with on the go because I don’t want to take full sized headphones around to something in my regular rotation of desktop headphones, particularly when I need something that does passive noise isolation (since I don’t have a closed back I like enough (though the HD620 might change that).
Obviously no idea how it compares to the DM OG that everyone obsesses over, but I’m pretty happy with this.
You can look at the 0.78mm socket, if the socket is purely black and opaque, it’s the OG version, otherwise it’s not. The socket for the revised version is translucent.
