I bought a set of DMs from the used market. And I have a few concerns -
I canât get a good seal/fit with any of my current tips (Iâve tried several at this point - from AZLAs to SpinFits, to Final) and I get a somewhat decent fit with foams (still not great). I think this might be a deal breaker in itself unless thereâs some suggestions from anyone here that work for me.
I am not sure which version I got (OG or the 2nd Gen) - and the seller wasnât sure either. Is there any way I can confirm which version I have?
I guess there is no way. Unless you have very sensitive hearing and notice more energetic mids than they should be. The new version should also have a decent amount of sub-bass.
See that youâve tried Azla, but may I ask which tips from Azla? I use the Azla Crystals with my pair and they seem to work the best. I too had issues with fit when I first got mine and noted that this would be a potential deal breaker as well.
I would try a stickier tip if possible, but one that doesnât alter the sound too much. Crystals, radius deep mount, H570 (these are latex so YMMV). I hope you can get it to work for you.
This is purely speculation but if the seller doesnât know I would assume itâs the 2nd gen. People put a premium on the OG and I gotta imagine anyone who owns a pair and didnât know would have incentive to find out to capitalize
Gotta agree. I canât imagine anyone has an OG and doesnât know. They either sought it out used or bought it new enough on initial release to be aware.
tf are you all talking about with the fit, fit for me is perfect can wear for hours, unlike smth like the tea2 which after about 2 hrs my ears hurt really bad. Are you guys thinking that the iems are too small? because I have sort of small ears so thatâs why tea2 hurts my ears since itâs pretty big but these fit perfect.
So, this post illustrates why I should just stop going to these forums.
I got the Dark Magician (v2) and thought it was great. My only criticism of it was I wanted a bit more bass. EQ worked fine, but on-the-go I donât always want to use my Qudelix. So I paired it with the 10 ohm impedance adaptor from the Crinacle Red. This sounded bassier but a little muddier too out of my main desktop dac/amp. Then I tried it with the Khadas Tea, a DAC/amp I love the form factor of but though sounded a bit too lean with most of my 'phones. However, something about the MiM v2 + impedance adaptor + Tea is just⊠magic. Like really underscores how synergy can do crazy things.
But now that I read the v1 is supposed to be vastly superior well now I want to know. Which is very annoying because I was perfectly happy the earphones up until now. Lex99âs one is already sold (and in Europe anyway) and they donât seem to come on the market often.
So the question is does anyone have an EQ profile handy that makes the v2 sound more like the v1 so I can at least get a sense of what I may or may not be missing and if I even care?
If anyoneâs curious I made this very minor tweaking EQ profile for the Dark Magician based on eyeballing the difference between the OG and the V2 and bumping the bass up a bit. I think it sounds pretty good, though obviously I canât compare it to the actual sound of the OG.
The problem is that while itâs the same shell and the same driver, people who have opened it up and tried to physically retune the V2 to the V1 have not been able to replicate the tuning methods that were used on V1. Nobody who has had both have been able to replicate the V1 sound out of the V2.
Whether someone prefers V2, stock or retuned, is not the same as âcan you make V2 sound like V1?â which nobody has been able to
Would you mind exporting this as a file? That would make it much easier to deal with.
Per @GooberBM , as I said the point isnât to exactly replicate the V1, the point is to get a better sense of the sound signature to know if Iâd even want to purchase a V1 should it become available.
The most annoying part is that the Parametric EQ plug-in for SoundSource uses âwidthâ instead of âQâ, so with each parameter I have to input it into a translator
