šŸ”· Modhouse ARGON MkIII

Yes. It’s a small operation, probably part time, 1 person doing the mods, while his wife may help out with other tasks such as emails.

I don’t think they have much status other than it’s still in your box sealed in storage until he starts to perform the mods.

Right, I get the impression that they are overwhelmed by their success. Their sustained popularity speak to the quality of their mod, but be prepared to wait!

Got it, thanks so much for the replies! Well, it’s a good exercise in patience.

I almost want to say they are victims of their own success, but the communication questions are fair.

Yeah, from what I’ve seen, it is mitigated somewhat by their reputation in the community and lots of people vouching for them.

Completely! It’s all fair, and I don’t think anyone in this thread has been unreasonable at all. In fact Ryan would probably agree that he should communicate more. He can either mod headphones or answer email, right?

Cottage businesses are a rare thing these days!

For those interested, just saw this linked on a reddit thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/djpq8f/modhousecom_not_answering_emails_regarding_argon/), explaining the communication delays:

When I ordered and waited for mine, I just pretty much tried to forget about it because there really was not much communication at all

Ah, got it. Yea, it’s just a bit different in these days of prime shipping instant gratification. Trying to forget about it, then it’ll be a surprise!

Of course lol. I have no patience, and I would not consider buying something like this again because of the wait, I would just wait for a used one to come up

Same here, got the instructions, send them out and emailed them the info and then forget about them. If anything, this thread just makes me impatient.

EDIT: Its bad enough waiting for something from Massdrop (I will not call them the D word), that is months out. cough 789 cough

Have any of yaw heard both the argons and dt 770 80 ohm. Which has better soundstage?

I would say the argon’s are more spacious, but the 770 isn’t bad either

Just wondering, I might try something with some sub-base for a change.

They do have good subbass, but you kinda need to have a pretty beefy amp to get that

Agreed - the bass and overall sound is much punchier and feels more dynamic on my Argon T60 when paired with a jumpered Emotiva BasX (2-8W) versus a Mayflower ARC (<1W).

Part of this must be from how insensitive the cans are - I can’t get them on the ARC to the desired volume even when at high gain / full knob - but in direct A/B testing I just prefer the sound of a high-powered amp much more for these headphones.

Yes, power/a good amp is not only volume :+1: (as I think I have said quite often now lol)

I’m guessing a atom amp won’t be enough? Other than sub-base would that be enough for the rest of the sound?

More might help, but it should at least work decent

I read X2’s and dt 880 80 ohm sound similar, if that’s the case I’ll pass. That q701 ain’t sounding as good, soundstage sounding meh. Their notorious for long burn-in times, I heard as much as 500 hours. I might take it back.
