šŸ”· Modhouse ARGON MkIII

The Asgard 3 is at 260 euros + shipping, IF I can get it, and thats a big if, since it isnā€™t available at their EU retailers now. The rhead is a bit cheaper, itā€™s listed at 250EUR online, although I could probably get a deal on it since the shop thatā€™s selling is in my city, therefore no shipping either!

I prefer the jack placement on the rhead. Also, the fact, that Iā€™d have to pay around 300$ (converted) for a 200$ amp is off putting for me, of course that doesnā€™t matter if itā€™s still worth the price, and obviously I need the one that can drive the Argons.

I would say rhead here imo, if you can get it cheaper it can be a great steal

Awesome! Thanks for the help @M0N

How do you know nearing shipping date? 12 week timeline? I shipped a set of mkiiiā€™s to them (from Spain) to mod near 11 weeks ago and sent follow up emails and havent heard a peep. Also where are you located? Just snagged an Asgard 3 off ebay for 240. Have seen a few round that price recentlyā€¦

Iā€™ll look around on there then, maybe Iā€™ll find one. Iā€™m in Hungary, and yes, what I meant by shipping date is the 12 weeks timeline, I havenā€™t gotten an update or anything like that. Iā€™m on week 9 so I still have plenty of time, but I want to buy the gear well in advance to be ready for the big day!

Did you get them single ended or balanced wiring?

Single ended but in hindsight I shouldā€™ve gone with balanced, itā€™s always nice to have the option even if you donā€™t necessarily plan on using it!

Actually single ended is fine, since the Asgard 3 runs single ended out, so youā€™re good there. Just wanted to check.

Nice, I went with the balanced. Will have an Asgard and the SP200 may make and adaptor for single.

I got the balanced mod as well, and just grabbed a balanced compatible Hart Audio cable from @brux. Works great with both balanced and unbalanced interconnects, so you could take advantage of both amps. Just remember unbalanced out to balanced in = ok, but balanced out to unbalanced in = bad.

I messaged to add the balanced mod but I have low hopes of getting a response since theyā€™re so busy. Thereā€™s lots of time though as my order wouldnā€™t hit 12 weeks til July.

Iā€™m confused, is this referring to a balanced dac pushing out to an unbalanced amp, or a balanced amp to an unbalanced headphone (which I thought was totally fine)?

Balanced out from an amp should not be used with single ended (unbalanced) headphones

Wait, why? I thought it was totally fine? Like, if I take a headphone that has a standard 3.5, and convert it to 2.5 and run through a balanced connector, why is that bad?

The other way around is fine, but balanced uses two separate grounds, which are combined when converting to unbalanced. This can cause grounding issues and potentially damage your equipment.

Hmm, thatā€™s interesting, is it so significant that it should never ever be done, or just best practices in general?

Maybe they watch this threadā€¦just got an email from them. They are stellar humans and my set should be getting modded soon!!! Suuuper stoked.

Holy shit they is shipped!!! Woohoo
