Hello,
When I still had my Schiit Vali 2 I found the Electro Harmonic 6922 Gold the best of all those that were under the price range.
It was warm, balanced and not too bright, the male voices were also very good and the female voices as well.
To the I found you also soft and controlled and has a nice depth that also clarifies the room well.
But I have to agree with Mon that there is a difference between hybrid and tube amplifiers.
A pure tube amp oouff if the cleanly built there is no longer hold for me.
The sound is so of butter soft, gentle and yet powerful in the reproduction. and the detail reproduction is compared to a transistor lovvoller.
And much quieter.
I guess Iâd never thought of the LP as a bright amp. The two headphones Iâve listened to on it are an LCD-2 F and the Eikon, both I guess pair well with the amp. I preferred the Gold Lion to the stock Electro Harmonix.
I find the mlp mid forward if anything, at least in itâs stock form. So far the warmest tubes ive tried are the Amperex PQ Gold Pin 6922. Those are unfortunately a bit pricey and becoming harder to find.
Soviet 6H23-P / 6N23-P tubes arenât at all what Iâd consider warm. They are pretty boosted in the upper mids and the treble is grainy, at least to my ears.
So I listened to all the tubes on the Fostex Tr x00 Mahogany and Denon D7200.
With the Denon I had to go n tick brighter and with the Fostex it was mkr clearly too bright, but that is due to the cups because they are the brightest.
I still had a Tad tube that was a bit richer than the Electro Harmonix.
I know the Lcd 2 F unfortunately not.I have ordered the Classic I would have to listen purely before I can say anything at all.
But clearly the approximate rule of thumb fits, is the headphones rather dark tuned makes you nothing wrong with ner brighter tube.
What I noticed relatively quickly on the hybrids
Youâre pretty quickly lost money if the tube is not the one where you hoped for.
This is the pure tube amplifier but something different.da I can still fine-tune something if necessary.
Not do? Thatâs the tube Iâm talking about. Youâll need to order 2 though. That looks like the price for 1. One of those hifishark links was to an ebay listing that had 4 for $200. Iâd check that out. Keep the 2 that sound best and flip the other pair to recover some of the cost.
Thatâs the right tube, yes. I know nothing about that retailer, tho. But, if you trust 'em, I see no red flags. It might be worth checking to see if theyâll sell you a pair that measures close to each other. Iâve heard both that having a matched set matters and also doesnât matter, depending on source. TBH, I donât know enough to say, but it may not hurt to ask them if theyâll do that for you. There are others in this community far more knowledgeable about tubes than me.
Oh those seem like headphones with a touch of dark. my headphones are a little more bright. A headphone im using right now that iâm liking a lot is the HarmonicDyne Zeus. it can be a bit bright. Also the DT880 and DT1990. The new Blon B-30 sounds really good on it too.
Well that listing of headphones is a bit of a whoâs who of treble pushers. Are you running any of them balanced? The MLP is not known to be the best performer single ended.
The retail price went back up to $799 MSRP and the used market is adjusting accordingly despite many of them probably paying $450 or less for the LP when it was on sale.
