đŸ”¶ Monoprice Monolith M570

It probably depends entirely on the music you are listening to. With the m570 tracks that weren’t too vocal focused and didn’t have a lot of treble focus sounded mostly fine to me.

These look realllyyy nice.

Well I can’t speak as to specific frequencies but speaking male voices are just rendered hollow. If you don’t notice it, GREAT! Just enjoy the headphones; don’t go looking for a problem that isn’t a problem yet! They are wonderful for music.

Anyone have a EQ profile to bring these closer to the BLONs or Aiva? Finally upgraded to SMSL sp200 and m300 mkii dac in preperation for a more significant upgrade in headphones. Picked up the m570 because they were so cheap in Canada that I couldn’t resist giving them a shot. I like the detail they produce but the mids are lacking and the highs could be toned down more to my liking. I hear the BLONs are the warmest of the aiva clones.

Off topic but, any recommendations for a high end warm headphone with great imaging for gaming as well? Or should I get something like an elex along with a 1990 for gaming instead of just one high end headphone. I’ve always been hovering around the 300 dollar category for years and finally have freedom to splurge a bit.

So I think getting two headphones might be worthwhile. What type of music do you listen to?

Mainly rock, jazz, metal, pop. A bit of electronic music and game soundtracks as well.

Gotcha. Well you did mention the 1990 and elex and that would be a pretty sweet combo, the elex is awesome for music and would be pretty sweet for what you listen to (mildly w shaped, great detail and dynamics, and also it would have really nice spatial recreation for music), the 1990 would be a high performer for gaming or a more studio oriented sound (bright neutral, aggressive, forward detailed sound with a wide stage and accurate imaging that works really well in games).

Other options for a nice music headphone might be a used lcd 2 fazor, used hifiman edition x v2, and perhaps a used zmf auteur

Are there any other headphones that are competitive with the 1990 in imaging but aren’t as bright. Or a cheaper alternative with comparable imaging. The main appeal of the 1990 is the imaging, I’ve found i don’t like neutral bright or bright headphones in general very much.

Hmmm perhaps what about a koss esp95x? This might be a strange pick but imo it’s actually good for gaming with it’s impressive separation and speed, pretty great imaging too. Not to mention pretty nice for music as well (also I like them with the dekoni pads). There is also some slight compression that tends to work in favor of competitive games as well

The 95x is on sale now for 400$

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll look into the esp95x. Along with your suggestions for music enjoyment headphones. Gaming im not too picky other than imaging.

Takstar HF580 :stuck_out_tongue: Inexpensive and warm aiva clone. Zeos said they sounded muffled but the sound demo sounds okay to me. I’m treble-sensitive so I’ll buy these soon too. They definitely won’t sound too bright.

Hi everyone! any update on the drivers ringing? I got my m570 yesterday. I tried some sweeping test. The left driver stop sounding from 520hz-550hz and 780hz-850hz. Between 550hz and 570hz the sound came only from the left cup.

in what respect do you mean updates? its a common issue with them people either return them and try again or not, or just keep it and accept it as part of the headphone’s quirks.

I thought that monoprice might have fix the issue.

Are you going to return yours? I have a pair coming in next week. Sold and shipped by Amazon.ca. I will give them a week and if I am not completely happy, they go back.

I think I will return them! This is the second pair I owned. The ringing problem is not that bothersome with my music. They sounded really good! but, I have other headphones around. If it was my only pair I will probably keep it.

Don’t blame you at all. There are tons of nice headphones out there and there is no reason to spend one minute with a headphone you don’t enjoy.

I got my pair yesterday and used them for a couple of hours at the end of the day. Out of the box they were HORRIBLE! 80% of the mids were on the right, there was NO bass and the vocals were muffled. I assumed they were a defective set, but I thought “Give them a shot”. After an hour or two the sound started to smooth out. Balanced leveled out and some bass started to flow. Vocals became much clearer and thing started flowing.

At this point I would like to comment on the cable. Perfect length for me and it is nice and soft. My first headphone with 2.5mm connectors. Wow they are small and flimsy looking. Doesn’t inspire long term confidence. And Wow, does it take some force to plug into those cups. You will hear a loud click when they are inserted properly.

On to lots of testing today. First couple of hours were spent on my tube amp.
Chain was Sony DAP (NW-ZX300) to SMSL SU-8 DAC to Schiit Loki EQ to MAD Ear+ HDII tube amp. Sounded very nice. Not much bass with the tube amp which is why I add the Loki. Mids seem just a little bit recessed. Don’t notice anything in the highs and certainly no ringing. The bass is soft. You occasionally hear it, but you have listen for it.
Nice overall, but unexceptional. SUPER CHEAP though. My landed cost was $249.00, with 15% sales tax, in Canuck bucks (about 190 in US$'s).

I then moved them to my Violectric V220 solid state amp, with no EQ. This amp gives every headphone a bass boost. Except for these. On a really bassy track you will notice it, but for the most part you won’t.
I wasn’t sure if I was getting all the sound I was supposed to? I seem to need to play these louder. I love that the V220 amp plays two headphones at once. I plugged in my Grado GH2’s and spent quite a while volume matching. I did not change any pre-gain settings. To keep them pretty even (69-74Db’s through the song), the volume settings ended up at 9:10 (Grado) and 9:35 for the M570. I know this test is in NO way scientific, but it settled something for me. Playing the same songs over and over, I had the same result: At the same volume, the Grado’s put out much more detail. Vocals were more prominent and easier to make out (I know that is a strength of Grado’s).

After about ten hours use, my feelings are:
These are NOT junk.
These are NOT detail monsters.
These are NOT bass monsters.
These ARE very comfortable, IMO.
These ARE very attractive, IMO.
These ARE very cheap.

I will keep going through the weekend and make a decision on Monday, if not Sunday, on whether to keep them. So far they are not forcing their way into my collection. I know “you get what you pay for”, but I had higher hopes.

The DT880’s might have set my expectations too high on cheap headphones.

Also each cup looks like it has a piece of string inside? Maybe that’s a planar thing.

The string is the extra cable connecting the 2.5mm jack to the driver. Agree with your assessment. M570 does nothing to stand out as exceptional, but also nothing to offend (as long as you don’t get a ringing unit), I like the looks, comfy, and build quality is the best of the current generation of the M series.
