For the 3 you mentioned, could you give me a comparison between their bass and sound stage for me? Now that I think about, I’d also like to know, how does sound stage affect how close something can sound to you? I certainly hear about how far out from your head the sound can appear, but can a massive sound stage for instance, make it so sounds can’t ever get really close to you? I just remembered, I meant to ask if the atom amp can drive the DT 1990 Pro or not.
I would just like to drop in a shill the TR-X00 line of headphones, particularly the purple heart and ebony. They are sadly discontinued but I feel would be worth it to hunt down a used one. A GREAT bass headphone with a warm fun V shaped sound. Never sharp in the treble and the mids are still good, especially for a V shape. But like I said, they are only available used.
To answer some of your questions, the atom can drive the dt1990. As for sound stage, it entirely depends on the headphones. This is specifically a question of sound stage DEPTH. @M0N should be able to tell you if any of the headphones you’re looking at have good sound stage depth or not. Again I’ll shill the TR-X00 purple hearts and say they are intimate (less sound stage) but have a good depth to them so occasionally a sound will come from really far away, despite the intimate sound stage.
I keep meaning to ask, with the verticality of imaging, is it only level or above you, or can sounds also extend below you as well?
It can be above or below you, but not many budget cans can pull this off effectively (or many more midrange to higher end tbh)
If you get a tube preamp and run it into a solid state amp, how exactly does this fair vs a hybrid tube amp? For headphones such as the common case with planars that don’t work well with tube amps but can be driver off of hybrids, will this system of a tube preamp and solid state amp work as well? What happens if you do the opposite with a solid state preamp to a tube amp? Lastly, what happens running a solid state amp to a hybrid/pure tube amp and vice versa?
It’s somewhat similar.
Solid state preamp into a tube won’t change much as you are still using a tube so it would have the same limitations/downsides as using a full tube
Don’t do this, you don’t want to double amp
A hybrid is normally a tube stage feeding a SS stage, so similar to a pre feeding a SS Amp.
The important bit from a driving headphones standpoint is that the SS amp is last, since it then dictates the output characteristics.
@M0N How would you rank the Sendy Aiva, DT 1990 Pro with either pad, and Focal Elex from brightest to least brightest sound signature?
From brightest to least bright: 1990 with analytical pads, sendy aiva, focal elex.
The 1990 and aiva are brighter headphones, the elex is more neutral so it’s definitely not lacking treble but it’s not treble boosted
I’m pretty much content on getting the Focal Elex at this point. Drop is letting me send the Blon B20s back for a refund. Just have to hope nothing goes astray when I send it back to them.
That’s pretty cool that they are doing that. I hope everything goes smoothly
Only weird part about it was they never asked about the headphones themselves. Just asked me questions for account security and to make the prepaid return label/RMA. Maybe that’s normal, but I just thought they would be more occupied on the headphones.
@M0N Ok, this is a bit of a silly question, but I’m really curious. Have you ever owned a speaker you can use underwater, and how was it if so?
Is there an inherent advantage in having a 6.35mm trs termination over 3.5mm trs?
I know there is an adapter to go from 3.5mm to 6.35mm, but is there any others? (I specifically mean ones just like the 3.5mm to 6.35mm where there are no wires and just the termination itself.)
Durability mostly, it’s just more robust
There are but I would not recommend those because that style puts a lot of stress on the 3.5mm it is plugged into. If you really want one, I linked one below, but I would recommend something like the sennheiser or grado 1/4 inch to 3.5 if you can

Can anyone provide me with a link to this headphone stand? I haven’t been able to find it. (Took this image from another thread.)
There are more stands that look just like it out there too
Is there any advantage in getting a 3.5mm trs termination over a 3.5mm trrs termination?
