Myer-Audio Thread Discussion and Impressions

I thought it was time for Myer-Audio to have its own thread.

Lots of reviews on the SLT6, D41 and SL41 MKII out there and moving forward , the 2024 1+8 and 2+6 Hybrids.

didn’t hear much about the slt6. Anyone been listening to it for a while now?

Nice to see 2 Dynamic Drivers used like this again.

Easy on the eyes, and a promising configuration.

Does look like the BAs (“moving iron”) are all ‘custom’, which must help keep the cost down but without jumping to conclusions or being too snobby, in my experience has noticeable timbre compromise vs Sonion and sometimes Knowles.

And come to think of it there have been releases lately at only slightly higher prices that are full of top-shelf components (also 2DD and multi BA), so they haven’t managed to keep the cost down too remarkably given all-no-name BAs.

Maybe the D81 will have more special sauce but the Anvil kills it and the Performer 7 both better tuned.

I was expecting more.

I’m still rocking the SLT6 since your recommendation. Ended up switching the bass up even though it’s a hair over neutral that way but it’s an IEM and better with a touch more than less. Clearly not slowing/masking the mids and really enjoyable. In fact I believe the reason I use this way is due to the weight added to mids which can be a bit a bit threadbare without it. Think it’s about a DB low in the off setting and about that much extra in the high position so picking nits but the mids are great like this. These vented bass BAs do not have BA or dynamic character. Just sound kinda right.

Highs are always in the low position and on the edge there until associations like the next comments are in place. Using spinfits now. They sound a lot like the stock all white tips but with a touch more color and weight in the mids/ less dry. Still using the cheap (in the teens) NiceCHK copper litz. I think a lot of people will like these as is with the stock cable, white tips and the bass switched up but an extra $20 bucks or so is well worth the effort.

I had some S8s that I really liked and got dialed in with a different (silver litz 8 wire) cable and some Comply tips but I sold them after having the SLT6 for a week. If you can get it’s tonality dialed into your preferences, it’s very detailed, well balanced and rhythmic.

Might always be a little hot for some source associations or preferences. Viva la difference.

Bummer about the D81 after a couple of hits. Let the driver wars resume.

I tend to agree with that but I found the mid drivers in my S8 to not have the BA dryness/odd harmonic character to them and they’re proprietary.

see the above

Could be because Moondrop get hand me downs from Softears, and their in house work would be an exception

Some will like the lesser bass shelf but I didn’t or I should say I just like the 61t more

I believe those mid BAs were used but Moondrop long before Softears ever made an IEM. A8 had them in 2019. Rs10 appeared in 2020 and I believe they were a full year apart.

Any more bass than this would be too much for me. It definitely takes a bit of voicing but I have no issue with that. Great technicalities that can be controlled with some effort on that voicing and I find the bass and mids pretty great in the up position with the right accessories. Maybe Too Many Notes for lessor sources or not the right cables/tips. Definitely demanding on associations, let you know what’s wrong and take some effort but I’m fine with that. Viva la difference. :slightly_smiling_face:

I can’t guarantee Softears is the mother company (they seem to do some serious R&D), but RS10 and Cerberus were announced 2018 as far as I know.

Moondrop do say they were founded 2015 and Softears 2017 so obviously my view of how they are nested is wrong or has some flaws/nuances.

I saw that in another forum as well but I believe my 1st dates are correct. It really doesn’t matter as it’s still 3rd party armatures. I believe both those companies are quite competent.
