Agree about studio use and production. If I were to use anything other than studio monitors, I would definitely use Shure SRH1540 or HD600, the Shureâs specifically for tracking.
For closed I would actually use a focal elegia in the price range lol (but this is coming from a mastering perspective)
The treble spike from 4.5 to 6.5 khz would worry me a bit, but not as much as the treble drop from 8.5 to 10khz. Still, there are so many that praise the Elegia, so I really need to test out a pair for myself. All Focal headphones look like they would be super comfortable.
I think they are more comfortable than the ndh20, but if you really want comfort, I may end up selling my elegia now that I have the aeon 2 closed, because man those are great
The fr on the elegia is pretty strange, but once you actually wear them itâs not an issue. I think this just focal tuning it so it really doesnât actually sound closed back tbh, it doesnât really inhibit the typical issues a closed back has sound wise. It does have vents in the focal logo, but they isolate really well so it doesnât matter to me
I really need to test out the Elegias first, seeing as Iâm super picky with treble tuning. The Aeon 2s are interesting. I wanted to get the Aeon Flow Closed for a while, but ended up getting a pair of Oppo PM-3 for $170, which was a steal at the timeâŚtoo bad they were damaged in an unfortunate accident involving my dog tripping me as I was running to get the door, lol.
Honestly I wasnât the biggest fan of the original aeon, it had some real compression issues and the tuning wasnât that pleasant to me. The 2 was just a big step up imo
Also those pm3 are pretty nice especially for the price you got them for lol
Those PM3 are resting in pieces in the headphone graveyard unfortunately. They were an underrated set of cans for my mobile use.
Sooo I got these today. I Really like them, a bit uncomfortable but ok.
I really like the vocals on these and the lovely low end.
Think they are great complement to my DT 1990.
What I am curious about is this. How do the Neumanns compare to DT 1770 and the 177x?
I am looking for something with a little bump in the low end, something that also works for gaming, and ofc music. I listen to modern classical (Ălafur Arnalds), Aurora, rap and Rock. The Neumanns might be it, but the grass might be greenerâŚ
The DT 1770s have much more bass than the Neumannâs. Although, they arent as bassy as some claim. I liked my 1770 but the soundstage was narrow like the Neumannâs, but the mids were much more recessed. Treble is comparable although I think the Neumannâs have much more linear treble. The build on the DT 1770 and 1990 are fantastic and much more comfortable than the Neumannâs. The DT 1770 has a 3 pin mini xlr detachable cable.
I think the 177x go is just a fixed 1770 pro, I really didnât like the 1770, but the 177x is actually pretty good. I wouldnât consider the 1770 but I would consider the 177x
Arent the 177x 32 ohm and 1770 250 ohm? I wonder if that is the main difference?
That is true, but massdrop also re-tuned them so they sound much better. The tuning was what let down the 1770 pro imo
From what I have been reading and watching reviews⌠the 177x with pad swap is what interests me.
Wider than the Neumanns but still some bass (donât need more the the Neumanns!) and good treble and highs.
But if you would choose, what would be your pick and why? I am currently leaning towards the 177x because Of the comfort and build - if itâs close to the Neumanns regarding sound?
Youâve heard the both?
@Hazi59 with a of swap on the 177x I would loose some bass, might even be a good thing⌠Might be closer the the Neumanns.
Personally I prefer the 177x with stock pads, but it does trade blows with the ndh20, itâs mainly preference
The main reason I sold my 1770 was because my Argon mk 3 sounded way better to me. At the time, I also had a pair of Campfire Audio Cascade that I was borrowing from a friend as well. Biggest regret I have is not buying the Cascade off of him for $550. The cascades are the best v sig Iâve ever heard.
The cascades are pretty sweet, although in the end I sold mine because I thought the th900mk2 purple hearts kinda did it better for me (but less portable)
I only heard mk 1 th900 and treble literally murdered me twice.
The mk1 is a different story lol
So Iâm putting the Neumannâs up for sale. I really love them, but my ears are just too large to wear them comfortably. Total bummer.
Actually started looking at the TR-X00 Mahogany since the 177x is unavailable now, and Iâm a very impatient person when it comes to buying THINGS
How would you all compare the tr-x00 with the neumanns?
