The x00 is more v shaped than the ndh20, but also more aggressive and impactful, the ndh20 can sound smoothed over at times, where the x00 is more exciting imo. They are both fairly intimate, but I think the x00 has better imaging. The ndh20 has great isolation and doesnāt leak noise, where the x00 is more semi open than closed with not that much isolation and will leak noise a bit. Personally I would prefer the ndh20 for travel and the x00 at home
Also, the variation of the wood cups makes a tiny difference in sound. The ebony wood are the best sounding IMO. The mahogany are sort of in the middle, whereas the purpleheart are that fun v shape that will slap you in the face with treble and bass (in a good way).
@M0N @Hazi59 - thank you for taking the time to answer all this!
I will start off by getting the 1770s and a/b them with the neumanns. I can then decide wether to go for 177x or the x00 (If Iām not happy with the first two).
Thank you!
If there is anything else in the sub 500usd that can compete with the neumanns, please let me know
You may be able to find a used campfire Cascade in that range, Beyer t5p could be something else too
Well Iām selling my Neumannās if anybody is interested. $300 free shipping to continental U.S.
quick question, just got a pair of these on ebay for 225, and I like them so far but donāt understand why the cable is on the right side. Is there anything wrong with switching the rca cables on my amp to be inverted and wearing the headphones backwards? They seem pretty symmetrical so itās a similar amount of [dis]comfort for me. Iām just wondering if theres any reason not to do it this way.
The drivers arenāt centered in the earcups. But I donāt know how much, or how, that effects the sound/tuning.
yeah, itāll probably affect the sound a little bitā¦ but just try it, if it sounds fine to you, then do whatever you want. lol.
One more question for those who bought that Sennheiser cable linked above, does it deal with the cable noise? I actually like the coiled cable, but if that one gets rid of cable noise then itās worth for me since I move my head around a lot and it gets a bit annoying at times lol.
Iām not sure which one you are referring toā¦ if itās the one on Amazon for the HD8 proā¦ then itās not the best for microphonics.
But https://hartaudiocables.com/ can make a cable for the NDH20 and his are very good for microphonics, IMO.
Wanting to buy a pair of closed backs that I can take out and about. I donāt know anything about closed backs but these are getting a ton of recommendations. Could a out of the box Fiio q5s drive one of these? Or would I have to go with the bulkier Xduoo XD-05 Plus+?
I know thereās the new drop pandas. Iām assuming these are in a whole different league, but let me know if Iām wrong and should just go with them
These are pretty nice, it depends on your sound signature you prefer though. Is comfort a large worry? What music do you listen to? The ndh 20 is pretty portable and also isolates well, so thatās good, but comfort isnāt the best for some people and the sound depends on what you are after
Thanks for the quick reply! Donāt really know what kind of sound signature I like. This is my last.fm, mostly indie rock. How bad is the comfort issue? Grados give me an acute pain that becomes pretty unbearable
So they can give people ear pain because imo they can be borderline on ear tbh for people with larger ears, and the clamp is strong so it actually might not be up your alley imo. I think you might enjoy the sound but I have a feeling comfort might be a deal breaker for you. What budget are you thinking of so far, and also do you already have a dac amp?
How come you want to sell them?
I bought my ndh20 last year in mid of the year, just couldnt get used to the discomfort especially im wearing glassesā¦
are we allow to sell/buy items on this forum?
We donāt have a specific forum for it (yet?) if you wanna mention it in this thread and ask pm for further details, I think that should be fine. You will probably fare better listing it on avexchange tho.
Welcome to the Forum, Javi!
And Javi is gone, lol.
I just got the same cable and I must say that the microphonics are much worse than with the stock cables, especially when the braided jacket touches table edges, the zipper of a sweater or the imprint on a t-shirt.
Does anyone know how to unscrew or remove the 2.5mm and 3.5mm tips from their metal jackets? I plan on buying some paracords 550 type III to use them as a new cable jacket with hopefully less microphonics, like here: https://cdn.instructables.com/F0T/SVBM/I7CVPENE/F0TSVBMI7CVPENE.LARGE.jpg?auto=webp&width=1024&height=1024&fit=bounds
