Think audioquest dragonflys will be a sufficient amp for these?
Let me verify for you today.
Works well enough. You can hear what everyone else says on the Dragonfly Cobalt. I personally want more power not for volume but just because, however I think itās just me knowing the stats against my RNHP and my Cobalt.
Okay thanks so much for trying it out personally and providing feedback
Okay all, I was really determined to buy the Elex until I realized you canāt ship them to the EU.
regardless of the comfort issues, is there anyone who has both the Elex and the Neumanns and can compare? I could chase down a pair of the Elex on ebay probably, but I can get the Neumanns in the EU so Iām considering switching to those instead.
Theyāre a closed back which is definitely a plus for me since I share a room, but other than that I was pretty excited about the stuff I heard about the Elex and Iām hoping these wonāt be a miss either.
Since Iām in the EU, Iāll probably either put money down on the Neumanns or the DT1990 (since people seem to often compare them to the Elex)
The NDH20ās are something I cannot recommend much for personal enjoyment very much. They are a tool and I have not validated the claims they are amazing on a tube personally. Unless you mix and master the $500 price for them is not worth it. I would recommend the HD 300 instead as they sound more lively but fit in that same bracket of a studio headphone and significantly cheaper.
But if you want to mix and master, the ndh20 does do some things to find details at the sacrifice of music you may normally enjoy.
I have both but I donāt have time to write a full comparison at the moment, Iāll get back as soon as I have the time
I owned the Neumannās and I enjoyed them. They definitely sound better on tubes, but I also enjoyed them off of my old SMSL SP200 that I sold a few months back. The soundstage is really small, so that is something to be aware of. I sold my Neumannās though because of comfort issues. I have a larger head and medium to large sized ears. I could go 2 hours most before I had to take them off due to pain. I did enjoy the sound.
I dont own the Elex, but I own the Clears and they are awesome. Treble can get a little hot depending on the genre of music.
All opinion, because I personally enjoy the sound the Neumanns very much so. I enjoy a very true to life sound, and these are very close to that imo. Not perfectly true to life, but the most true to life Iāve heard this far.
My main issue is that the drivers seem heavily restricted so some of the dynamics I enjoy on my amps arenāt as apparent on my set of NDH20ās. I did buy them used so maybe their life prior effected them.
so I went through a lot of the comments here - at random however - and some people have said there is a dip in the mids? I like my headphones mid-oriented (vocals, acoustic guitarsā¦) and it seems like both the NDH20 and the DT1990 (supposedly) have recessed mids. Buying headphones in the EU is so limitingā¦
They dont have too deep of recessed mids, but the mid-bass hump makes it sound more recessed than it actually is.
Itās mildly recessed. Just look at these headphones as NOT having forward mids.
I have some brainwave gel pads I want to put on these, anyone know a good way to swap these pads? I donāt know if I should rip off the current ones or if I can take it apart and get them off nicely. Recommendations?
Just wait for Zeos to mod his and post/ask for a guide. I honestly donāt want to consider messing with mine because the process will be messy and mostly likely destructive.
These headphones donāt take well to any pad changes. I tried and tried, but everything sounded awful.
I stand by my statement. Wait for Zeos. That man will end up modding them out of shear love for the headphones and philly styled stubbornness. Wait for the report on that science experiment to be completed before attempting because failure is a real probability there.
Thanks for the help! Iāll definitely wait it out, hopefully @ZeosPantera posts his mod when heās done!
Does anyone know if these required the Brainwavz XL sized pads like @ZeosPantera used , or can you get away with the standard round sized pads? (just looking for a size to start testing pads with)
Edit: shapes are hard
Iāve bought this hp for music production (electronic music, mostly). Iāve been using them for about a week now and I really like how they sound but I wonder if Focal Clear would be a better option. The major problem that I have with the Neumanns is comfort; they start to become quite uncomfortable after an hour or so.
Anyone knows how these two compare for music production?
Thank you!
