🔷 Neumann NDH20

Are you sure that you are not talking about the HD598 cables that need to be sanded down?

HD6/7/8 cables have a smaller plug which looks similar to the one of the NDH 20, as we see on your picture. I have not yet been able to try it though.

I sent my NDH20 back today. I had issue with the mechanical build which didn’t show up until late last week. The left ear cup holder became extremely loose and jiggly which also have live wire running through it to the other side of the headphone. The right side was still nice & firm.

I looked up for a replacement cable for the HD 8 DJ.

got mine today, but i´m not confinced at all. the cable is superbad, it doesnt really lock in and when i press it in or pull it - one driver gets no power.
2) i like to hear ASMR and an other problem with this headphone is: if you have for example 3 fingers tapping on cardboard one of them tapps twice as loud as the other 2 (doesnt happen with dt1990). I dont know why this happens but i dont like it that way.
3) in CSGO the soundvolume is super weird, anything in front is very loud and sounds from left and right seem to be like ~50% volume or less. I dont know why this happens, never had this with my other 6 Headphones but i dont like it.
4) can somebody test the track from Hans Zimmer: Now we are Free (Gladiator Soundtrack). On my dt1990 its nice as usual, on ndh20 it seems some sounds are just missing.

comfort is good, isolation also.

Hope you understood what i tried to say, btw i use thx789 and smsl-su8

Don’t know if anyone posted or has seen this vid about the NDH 20s yet but the guy presesnting the headphones mentions there is zero plastic used in the construction and that the earcups at the very least are aluminum. I mean it’s all probs aluminum but he was specific about that. https://youtu.be/ceEeNZRKvfU They’re also really comfortable for me with nice equal pressure at all points of contact. The 650s I used to use had too much pressure coming from the headband and the M1060Cs I returned were just plain too heavy at all contact points. If/when Neumann release a higher end pair though…

I just received this HD6/HD7/HD8 replacement cable and I can confirm that it works perfectly with the NDH 20. :slightly_smiling_face:

The packaging also said this, and my impressions back it up. The earcups are thicker than a soda can, but thinner than auto sheet metal. Does that make sense?

What’s the difference between the Neumann NDH20s and the Audio Trchnica MSR7s in terms of detail retrieval?

A co worker liked my cans and said that it reminded her of the cooking pots she had from back in the day…i do admire the look and feel of them

Man, I wish I saw this post before I decided to have a custom cable made oh well

Where’d you go to have the custom cable made? I have a short cable that works with the Neumann’s but idk how I feel about the material it’s made of.

I gave it to a friend who says he knows someone so I’m still waiting til I have the cable in my hand to see if it truly is workable. If it is I will post a pic And ask if the person would like to do more because I’m sure lots of people would want one too.

Awesome. Keep is posted.

Due to the flatness of the headphones, are they still worth the price for pure listening enjoyment?

Yes for pure listening enjoyment in quiet places, they are definitely worth it. But when I am on the go, I often add a bit more bass with Spotify’s EQ because of the background noise.

You might find that IEMs or noise cancelling headphones are a better fit for you if that is your only use case.

The best thing is to try them in a local shop. I found this way that Sennheiser HD 820 and Beyerdynamic DT 770 were way too bright for me and piercing my ears. Maybe even go for a walk with them if they allow you.

It just depends what you like.

I have personally gone back and forth on this a million times. I started with a more analytical headphone but then wanted something more fun and warm sounding but realized tonal balance is what I really like.

I’m not sure how many headphones you have listened to, but if you are newish to this hobby, I would start with cheaper options to find a sound you like.

HE4xx and HD6xx, X2 are super good starting points for this hobby. X2 is a super fun, bassy headphone with a wide soundstage. HD6xx will show off the mids with an intimate presentation. The HE4xx will have the most tonal balance.

You can find great prices for all of those on reseller markets.

Just did a 5 hour plane ride with them. Running off my Xduoo XD-05 and the cable I modded with the sander. Worked great and I didn’t even have much to complain about with the comfort. I think maybe breaking in the pads for a month fixed it enough to make me happy.

No THX portable? I personally don’t have an issue with comfort either.

I was using the Bluetooth Module with the Xduoo so my laptop/phone could work without being tethered. Plus I miss using it. Only gets love with my TH909.
