New 350$ Planars -Thieaudio Phantom

What exactly are they changing, based on your findings? So 2nd batch is going to be a different unit than what Zeos and BGGAR reviewed… Hopefully for the better like aluminum grills, carry case and improved cabling.

Can you share the frequency graphs here?

I love this Company so far. They have reached out a day after ordering to advise of EU import duties.

Their customer support rocks.

Thanks for the information. That is strange to me, because Lillian told me that they are implementing my findings into their research and development toward the second version of the Phantoms. I’m hoping that “build quality” will also have something to do with the grilles. Time will tell!

I had to cancel my order because of that - they actually suggested to lie to customs and risk a criminal charge. This is definitely not wanted, I hope they can change their distribution soon-ish, especially since their offer didn’t suggest there would be import charges as they are using their european Store-name. Pretty meh imho.

Yeah I’m not justifying that point at all - just happy that they informed me a day after. Some companies would make you wait or not even say anything at all. Shit for new buyers especially when you buy on Amazon expecting it to be customs free.

Not exactly sure how it works but I ordered my Phantoms through Amazon UK and they were ‘sold’ by Linsoul Audio-UK but took almost 3 weeks to arrive…they came with UK postage if I remember correctly, so maybe they were sent to LA-UK and posted on?

Shit so they have until 31 October to ship it to Ireland… Come on Boris, you know you want to extend.

For you mate I hope he does…but for every other reason NO lol

UPDATE 8/22/2019:
I recently got a tip from a YouTube viewer yesterday about the grilles on the phantom. I followed the tips, and after more careful measuring, I have found that the stock metal grilles do not affect the sound in a bad way. It is the fabric that is glued to the back of the grille which causes lack of airflow from the driver, thus creating a closed-back effect on the headphones. After removing the fabric and measuring, I have found that it is the main culprit, not the ferrous grill harming the magnetic field!

It would be great if you could post measurements! I think a lot of people are waiting to see just a frequency response graph of the phantoms on their own, let alone a mod comparison!

I just spent the last 20 minutes undoing all of my mods and putting the phantoms back to bone stock form. I’ll measure them and post the graph here soon

Ok not an in depth listen but I concur removing the fabric does indeed let the drivers breath the imagining is in proved, vocals are now more central and focused, before they were a tad blurry and not as sharp. Mids are still butter smooth may even be tighter too…Bass ,now I didn’t really have any problems with the oe set up but without the grills the bass is now faster, hits harder so a win there too…
I didn’t like the sound without the grills as I said previously, I felt the whole sound was some what disjointed and didn’t work as one, maybe the ferrous grills help keep things together and removing the fabric lets the drivers sing like a bird released from it’s cage.

Edit I’ve kept the round foam at the mo for a bit of dust protection…

Listening to this now a I have to say this sounds stupidly better than it should do on a $350 headphone…

As soon as I go to measure the headphones, my power goes out. How fun.

Try living on a barge…oh yeah we have solar panels, a genny, a bank of leisure batteries plus a 70bhp marine diesel engine with two alternators…bring on the zombie apocalypse…No guns though it’s the UK so we’re fucked lol.

Don’t worry about it. Zombies can’t swim.

Does that mean it measures flat?

This is not an issue nor fault with Phantoms. Without all the mods they still sound fantastic so there is nothing to fix by the seller. They can be improved but I wouldn’t call the need for the units to be replaced. Like C’mon, its 350$ fantastic sounding set that can be improved by taking off grill and removing the fabric
Lets not start calling this things “issues”
