Makes the Phantom less shouty and overall presentation is smoother. Also a big upgrade in bass performance. For me it was the most important mod in making me like the headphones.

You are welcome my friend. Here is what I bought (apologies since its a German site), they let you choose the thickness which is nice. I guess the thicker, the more bass and less highs you get.

So I’m thinking of getting a new cable as my stock balanced cable keeps loosing sound to one ear. I found this one on AliExpress:

The only issue is the 2.5mm plugs are 2 pole instead of 1, is that likely to cause any issues ?

Well, the Phantom use a 2.5 mm 2-pole (mono) connector and the cable you are asking about is showing a 2.5 mm 3-pole connector. If its soldered correctly that can work but I wouldn’t be sure. Plus, the whole article page is a bit confusing… These 2 seem like a better deal:

How do so many people prefer the sound signature of the Sundara. Not that I don’t acknowledge what they are good. While being super resolving airy and with a huge soundstage they are so… boring. So thin sounding and not musical.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the Sundara are excellent at what they do. And I am not shocked that there are people who like them but I am surprised that apparently so many people prefer to listen to their music with this kind of presentation… Didn’t expect that. Maybe it’s because I don’t listen to classical music?

When i was looking to buy a planar. People where really into this headphone. some saying it was the best price/performance in the range. Then Zeos popped up with a video saying its the best planar for 350$. Took him forever to finally review the Sundara. Ive always been curious about the Phantom though. I really want to buy this and start modding it. and take a listen after each mod. I’m so curious! lol

The Phantom are very nice but keep in mind, they are polar opposite to the Sundara… I wouldn’t compare those two.

I don’t really see how they are all that dissimilar imo, it’s pretty fair to compare them to the sundara
