I thought about doing the same with the M50x, but then I thought: is it worth to buy a potentially bad headphone just to shit on it ? especially when I don’t have alot of money to spend on such things

Glad I stumbled up these given the price and review from metal571… I’ll give my impressions here eventually

metal571 hates the grado’s btw xD understandably so

Smart lol I also felt they’ll potentially give me a different sound signature to explore

You’ll most likely enjoy the fucked up sound for a while and then it will get painful especially on certain music, thats why I don’t wanna bother buying such headphones.

Now if I had alot of money ye sure, or if you buy from somewhere where you can return them and get your money back, and you already have a solid pair of headphones to use in the meantime, cuz all I have are these cheap ass trebly ass Superlux HD681 and I just want something good, maybe in the future I’ll try some of the polarizing headphones like grado’s and M50x’s

Well you either like or dislike the signature, so if you end up liking grados you typically won’t find them painful or anything

I guess we will see! If I like them then great and if not i can always sell them… but I’m getting way ahead of myself… taking advice given here and in other threads I’m going to explore the budget arena first (x2’s are the only pair I’ve spent over $100 cdn on) and see where it takes me.

If you end up liking the Grado sound, but not the earpads, there is an option. It is kind of pricey, but they are amazing! Super comfortable.

I’ll keep that in mind… hopefully I wont need to but do they change the sound?

No, they don’t, at least with the smaller insert. The larger insert does push the cup further from your head and impairs the sound, IME.

The stock L cushions really hurt my ears and I couldn’t go much past two hours without needing to rotate 'phones. No time limits now.

Grado seems to be a love it or hate it 'phone. Just know that if you like the sound signature, you can climb the Grado tree and get a much nicer/smoother sound. Especially with used models.

I’m going for the SR60e. If I don’t like it I will just resell it.

The awesome part about trying cheap stuff. Not much loss if you sell it on. I look at it as a rental fee in my explorations.:grinning:

I just realized I have some payments coming up though that I may not be able to make good on though lol.

I have the 80e I think they have a little more bottom end compared to the 60e and they get the better match drivers that have stress relief (whatever that is) for $20 more.

I like the Grado sound, but eq is your friend. Bump the lows just a little and bring down the treble a little bit…

But that’s using an amp. Might not need much eq on a phone.

I’ll add tin T2 if you wan iem, I think you can get away with the He4xx on Mobile… also the 32 ohm Dt880 can be driven from mobile. Cord will probably be a bit long for mobile use, but Grado is kind of long too. Also the focal listen professional and v Moda 100 master can be driven from a portable/phone

Good to know… haven’t modified a headphone yet… see how it goes

It is NOT modding. It is just changing ear pads. There are not even any clips. Just pull off and pull on.

Those look way more comfy, perhaps comfy enough to pull my grados out of a box and slap the pads on there lol
