Nymzreviews.com official thread

I’ll take a pic of mine when I get home today; they’re the gold-on-gold ones. As far as running them off a DAP with the high impedence, not sure how much beefier it is but my Hiby R3 pro ran them just swimmingly of the SE 3.5mm at about 55-65/100 volume steps. This was while I was doing outside work, so even less would be needed in a quiet indoor setting.

I will be doing a review tonight and I’ll post some pictures in it and it will be in Riku’s thread.

Yes, they are sensitive enough. No worries regarding driving them. I had no issue driving them with an apple dongle, my MacBook, and obviously no issues with using my Fiio K9 Pro.

You have the MK1, right? Have you tried the Azla Xelastecs? I think they got so often recommended for the MK1, that UM included them as default in the MK2. Also: With the rather big Blessing 2 I had much better results with going S size instead of M, despite S not sealing on any other IEM I tried so far. Maybe going a size smaller than usually helps you with the MK1.

Buy LBBS, buy Riku’s buds, buy Tgx buds, buy Teas…

Or buy nothing, as long as you are enjoying music. Buy yourself and your peers a nice dinner.

PS: Zen Pro is an instrumental beast. IE600 is a fun beast. VERNUS is a mini beast hidden under a limited edition.

I really REALLY hope that they release the Vernus tuning to mass market; there’s a lot of money left on the table there…

Yes I do have OG. In fact my original package with Azlas was lost after 60days of waiting and my drunken buy would not be repeated for sure. They cross the threshold of what I am willing to pay sober for tips - same reason I did not buy Spiral Dots.

Regarding sizes - in most cases I end up needing something just in between of M and L (I have large canals though). Ms do not seal fully when deep down in canal and Ls when pushed all the way in starts to deform, because they are too large and loose seal as well.

Tragic story and real life struggles if you ask me

Sorry to hear, hope you got your money back at least.

I can totally understand if you don’t want to spend xelastic-money on tips, but they are really something completely different. It is something between silicon and foam. They do deform from your body heat to mold to your ear canal and then keep the shape.

Vernus tip rolls heavily (like all IEMs, I feel redundant saying that for every model now!)

Re: Vernus

The “reference” tuning nozzle with the right tips is one of the most balanced presentations I’ve heard.

The multiple vents really do leak sound though, I had complaints from my wife, followed by more soon after, because I had to turn them down far more than I’m used to (small house, only 10ft apart).

It led to quite a discovery though… they don’t disappoint one bit at low volumes. They’re almost more suited to it, like my old NM2+s.

While excellent for instrumental (folk, classical, jazz) the mid bass really lets them hold their own with rock/pop/metal too.

How do you compare the Vernus to the Serial?

I do agree. Reference might be my fav, despite my usual tastes going torwards the atmospheric nozzle.

I haven’t heard the Zen Pro, and I know it made some definite improvements, but I certainly prefer the Vernus to my memories of the Zen.

Same (as far as I know, or mostly the same) dynamic driver tech, with more versatility, with a more ergonomic shell, for far less money.

I have yet to change out the nozzle from Reference, even though I keep all of the nozzles in my carry case. So good.

It’s very much a complementary pairing. I prefer the Serial still, but if I wanted to listen to something completely different and still enjoy the tuning, the Vernus is a good option for that. Imagining the Vernus with the Serial’s sub-bass, or the Serial with the Vernus’ mid-bass and treble extension, is a crazy thought.
Or is it? Maybe adding those in would undo their strengths, and there always has to be a subdued region/trait.
I’m starting to think IEMs are like a palette. Even if you love every color, trying to use all of them just muddies things to brown. If everything’s a peak, then in relative terms, there are no peaks.
