You’re very right about this. And I think that’s why I’m out of the budget market (except maybe a planar down the road). I had 4 sets in the under-4100 range that did everything I could’ve needed (T3+ my main set, KZ ZAS which was good for trying out BA set frequency responses that don’t play back well on 1DD’s, KZ DQ6 which turned out to be the only set I had that plays the Serial frequency and not sound garbage, and the CRA was my beater set that I lost a earpiece and didn’t want to murder something).
I’ve got all the flavors I can reasonably get at sub-$100, so while it’s fun to watch new things drop there’s no reason to buy any of it other than to play “Gotta Catch 'Em All”.
Agreed. That is the ideal scenario, but the mod’s difficulty is probably the same as tip rolling anyways (actually it’s probably easier ). So if you already do that then I don’t see why not just do the mod as well. Literally takes 5 minutes.
Trust me I would also like a set where I don’t have to do anything, but considering the end-result the small effort is justifiably worth it. There’s no set around $150 that can compete with modded Olina
Seek Real Airship being described as having the same driver as Olina but the better tuning out of the box (or “Olina but better tuned” if you wanted to go there), by multiple sources, would have something to say about that.
Now I can’t say one way or the other about which is better, as I’ve never heard them, but Airship can clearly compete with Olina. And it is one of the sets I’m thinking about on that upgrade path down the road.
Around $150 usually means <$150. I agree that the Airship is a great set, but you can save $70 (save $90 when it’s on sale) by taking 5 minutes and adding a filter? Just my 2 cents.
Does any one know a good and not very expensive short usb-c to usb-c cable that works with dongles/amps? The shorter I have is 30cm and Id like it shorter.
The Ddhifi one looks nice, but damn they are expensive.
