It’s better than not having Serratus, let’s put it that way Volume is around 50-55% for me on Balanced (Going from memory atm).
So yes, you need to get it!

Olina SE is finally out and seems you can choose extra case + cable. Congratz to @hawaiibadboy .
Mine is supposted to arrive next week. Hype!
looks like solution to all my problems with cable with mic…
This or Serratus? Or both maybe…?
You’re asking to the right person…
Both
You are a bad friend to have I just grabbed the moonlight from @rattlingblanketwoman so I gotta put a stop on purchases for a while.
Oh, don’t get me started on Mahina…
Any thoughts on this earphone DUNU TALOS Planar + 2BA Drivers Hybrid IEMs — HiFiGo ? Tempted to get it. Trying to decide on whether to get the @tgx Alpha (Have the Serratus, and Riku’s Grand Riders already, both phenomenal) or the Dunu Talos. Don’t have a planar earbud and I do like BA’s.
I have no idea about that DUNU, but the graph with the BA is awfull, so I’m guessing the pure planar switches will be better…
Alpha
I think it’s fine off of balanced. Q5K can do 4vrms and 240 mW, which is no slouch for a dac/amp. I haven’t had time to a thorough A/B with my desktop ifi ZEN stack (1.8 mW output), but I can say it’s not a night & day difference
I have my eye on the Mahina to possibly solve my tribrid woes coming off the not-as-advertised Kinsa Lava. Truly feel it’s what I think I want/need in a sound signature when one day I went from the KL to my Mele and I realized ‘Oh my God I’ve been missing the thunder (what I like to call midbass lol)!’. Since then it’s basically been just the Kai making love to my ears.
oh I know… haha. I found the moonlight’s mids to be a bit too forward when turning up the volume so I EQ’d it to more like the IE600 which as it turns out is pretty much the same bass glide as the Mahina. If anyone out there is in the states and wants to do a swap, Moonlight for Mahina, lmk!
Agree. Tantalus/Alpha are much more demanding, but Serratus will play fine.
you have the serratus? I would have to get a 2.5 → 4.4 adapter as well. Outside of financial constraints one of my biggest hold ups is sound signature. From the website, it says the Serratus is optimal for classical an instrumental but I don’t really listen to that genre so idk if its worth it for me if it wont get much play time
looking at the KL graph I just realized that my EQ settings are pretty much the OG KL graph. That IEM would have been amazing
I have the Serratus, yes. I think you sort of answered your question there - if you don’t listen to a lot of instrumental, classical, and jazz music, then I don’t think you should invest in the Serratus. What type of music do you listen to? And have you owned earbuds in the past?
I have tried the Grand Archers (awesome!) and owned Smabat M2s Pros and the Penon PAC buds. I enjoy the replay a buds and what they offer. The stage and detail are pretty amazing however I mostly listen to rap, reggaton and general pop music so I need bass.
Listening to the new Blackpink Album on my Moonlights (EQ’d) last night was one of the best music listening experiences I have had in a loooong time
@nymz can chime in here, but if you really want an earbud with nice bass, then you should consider something like Berserker 1 from Rikubuds (@nymz reviewed them). I think Fiio FF3 is getting a lot of love on Head-fi, so worth considering as well
That’s the thing about the EJ it takes a EQ really well I used the MSEB on Hiby DAC and it did wonders tuned closer to my liking. Don’t be afaid of the EQ peeps everything is EQ’d to someone’s preference somewhere down the musical chain.
EQ = Good you
EQ = Bad you are still
So don’t be a cry baby and EQ that sh!t - EDIT: insert generalization here.
EDIT #2 I am in a mood signing off now.
Berserker lineup is for you then.
