Would you say that your target for bass coincides with Bad Guy’s? from my experience, I think I’m on the same boat. In a few rare occasions, I can accept the the lack of Mid-Bass IF and only IF the sub-bass has similar tuning. Case in Point that I just figured out recently:

Hexa.

The smooth glide is really nice, lends really well to a balance in the lower region. While I would definitely appreciate more mid-bass, it’s not as apparent because of the Sub-bass being somewhat subdued as well.

And that’s what makes it sound overall more coherent, big frequency anomalies like…

a wee sub bass boast and sucked out mid bass = sounds wack for me sorry :man_shrugging:

Why would they have distorted hearing? By hearing more iems, you learn what are your preferences and preferred frequency response. It also helps a lot by having reviewers target on squig, so you can find and align your opinion about a certain set. After all, this is a very subjective hobby, people always forget that.
If you don’t agree with Precog’s ratings, find a reviewer that is able to critically listen and correctly rate iems. For example, I like Precog because he’s ruthless and his reviews are always full of information. Same with reviews from my Portuguese brother. But I can’t stand certain “reviewers” that are well versed in writing 5000 words containing zero useful information, they shouldn’t even be called reviewers but sales persons for brands.

Oh, I agree with you guys on Variations’ mid-bass tuck. It kills the sound for me as well. Just thought it’s helpful to get a different opinion since I think precog’s assessments for mids/treble and tech are still fairly accurate based on my experience with some sets on the list (aside from the darker IEMs since he doesn’t crank up the volume).

@Sam_Hard RIP if the Supernova only sells in Indonesia, but that might also be a blessing in disguise (for my wallet :stuck_out_tongue: ).

The reviewers do a lot of work and it’s good that they exist, but I can’t agree that Variations are a universal set.- that’s a stupid statement! A much more universal complex is B2 OG, for example. :relieved:

Have you seen HBB’s new target?
The new one is the one with less mid bass and less pinna.

I have not, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I’m surprised he brought down the mid bass but increased the sub bass.

Sub is good!

A little wub wub is always good

Do not disrespect mid-bass while I’m still here. You can’t have the milkshake without a little thick in it!

Trust me, I like Mid+Sub

Edit: Cadenza follows HBB’s 2022 Target and it’s tasteful

I’m already at that stage for myself…all before starting Christmas shopping.

I somehow managed to keep some funds to buy some new iem. I remember I bought timeless for 170$ on linsoul’s Christmas sales. So I patiently wait for the next sales to pull the trigger, adding things to my list of potential buys (aful performer5, truthear hexa, tri starsea,…)
