@nymz Boy, you have been next level, deep in Sh** busy lately. You need not worry, take your time, enjoy your god damn holidays and weā€™ll all be here when you get back!

Make sure to bring the check book for that postage bill, too :smiling_face_with_tear:

What have I done.

RSV Impressions:

  1. One of the best vocals Iā€™ve ever heard (especially female)
  2. Separation and detail is crazy (on par with SA6U)
  3. All BA but still has strong low-end somehow?? (not basshead level)
  4. Note-weight is perfect, violins go crazy
  5. Dynamics and coherency on par with SA6U
  6. No BA timbre (at least to me)
  7. Great scaling (better than SA6U but not as sharp)
  8. Big stage but not as 3D as EJs (I think? Need more time)

Currently prefer the RSV over the EJs because of better vocals and detail, and over the SA6U because of better scaling (female vocals can get spicy high volume on SA6U).

For the output quality, I have recently compared the sound from my q5K and from my smsl HO100 to my p1Max. And there is a difference in sound.

So is it power related? not directly. Is there a margin for improvement on bt dongles? Certainly. My dream is a bt-capable questyle M15 ā€¦

I didnā€™t find the peq on my btr7 either, and didnā€™t really care about it, but I read later that there are currently conditions to access it:

  • you have to have a certain version as f the firmware
  • you have to let your finger on the custom EQ to activate peq

And yes, peq is only tied to ONE profile (I think they have pushed the physical boundaries lately by making it available onā€¦ A second custom EQā€¦ Yay)

I would say the fiio app is that shitty: as it has less options than the qudelix one, you can easily find the parameter youā€™re interested in. On q5K, finding a parameter can sometimes become a real odissey). But the peq implementation is clearly an afterthought.

For button layouts, the best I tried is the es100. It isnā€™t perfect, but having one button per function is something great, rather than having to double-click on somethingā€¦

You hear, I donā€™t - the truth is probably that I have fucked up hearing. I did not hear a significant difference to anything with M15 as well. But I really donā€™t think whatever gain you get with better source than something base is worth it as compared to putting that money to up your headphone. My problem with that is that there are plenty of reviews of sources that suggest that having particular one is making night/day difference suggesting newbies in audio gear that this is where they should allocate their money in the very beginning. But you know everyone has their own journey in the hobby

App has shitty UI for me - the options are not really clear on what do they do, submenus has ā€œloadingā€ time, the visual aspect is also terrible for my taste. What is that volume control btw?

But to be honest I heard Qudelix had its own problems with app in the beginning. For me the biggest no-no is a size - if that would be a DAP that would be perfect. It is not though.

Definitely not true and a very dumb thing to do. Something I unfortunately fell for when I startedā€¦(had the Moondrop KXXS and I bought the Fiio M11 dap to use with itā€¦)

X2 but there does come a time when :moneybag: spent on IEM/ :headphones: needs the same :moneybag: spent on a source to do it justice.

Not saying the KXXS needs a $500/600 source to shine but if your spend moves up in IEMā€™s/HPā€™s youā€™d be wise to invest the sameā€™ish :moneybag: in your source and chain or at least have a coherent synergy that in itā€™s self can save you :moneybag: in the long run.

Yeah no, upgrading the transducers first is what people should do. Sources are for last.

What range of money do you think money spent on sources and IEMs equalises? Like strictly in IEMl/earbuds world?

Oh boy, wonder who buys expensive sourcesā€¦

Right?

(slowly hides BF purchases)

Thereā€™s been less source competition than IEM/driver competition (not including donglesā€¦ ayayay!)

So the bang for buck is worse with DAPs and non-dongle DACs

That messes up ratios like ā€œspend 2:1 transducer to sourceā€ because 2:1 spending in actual impact on sound quality is likely 1:1 in price, with sources lagging in value.

Thatā€™s my feeling on using IEMs and sources that both float around $180 - the IEMs feel like theyā€™re from a higher league but the cost is equal.

This is so true. I use the BTR7 when I listen to everything now a days, even with sub $20 sets. While the BTR7 is a fine device (Build quality and sound quality is fantastic, really top notch) the built in software and the actual device UI is actually pretty atrocious. I suppose itā€™s a trade off? But for $200, I would of at least expected a better app experience. Itā€™s slow, laggy, doesnā€™t connect half the time and the PEQ function leaves a bit to be desired. I believe itā€™s a total of 10 bands (Which you can change the Hz response admittedly) and while there are ā€˜Customā€™ presets, youā€™re limited to only 3 which you canā€™t rename ā€¦ why? Iā€™m not an app developer but I really do feel this could be made a lot better.

I own the BTR3, the BTR5, the BTR7, and the Qudelix5k and the Qudelix offers by far the best user experience in the app. If it wasnā€™t for the fact that I have some buds and headphones that really sound better with the extra power from the BTR7 then I would have resold it by now. I was really hoping Fiio would put more into nailing the app and firmware on the BTR7 given how much of the market they lost when the Qudelix5k came around, but somehow they donā€™t seem to care much.

As a side note, I actually prefer the sound I get from the BTR3 to all of them. It has such a musical/euphonic quality to the sound.

Iā€™ve heard this about the BTR3. Thereā€™s a user on Head-Fi or doesnā€™t think the Canon + BTR3 can be beat in the IEM world.

Seems if not much power is needed, it has a pleasant tonality.

Agreed - The BTR3K to me is a much warmer, fuller source but the extra power from the 7 lends a little bit better to using it with the Timeless and the Monarchs. I bought the 7 because I anticipated buying a few buds in the future when funds become available, TGX and Riku buds specifically.

Iā€™m not sure what has to happen for FiiO to wake up and put some R&D into their software, but man it needs to happen sooner, rather than later.

Hi @nymz 120mw at 32 ohms to edition xs is enough?
