In my opinion the Meteor punches way more in the earlier mid bass frequencies. Like more than the charts would leave you to believe. The slight roll off in the subbass also helps accentuate it more. I remember the KL being slightly more boomy. Pretty confident with that statement going off from memory. Also believe, not as confident though, that the Meteor has more speed and texture in those regions.
I hope to be able to check it myself.
The truth is that this world is a curious place. I can imagine anything.
Regarding the reviewer Iām talking about, his evaluations are fortunately very reasoned, long and he has been able to test many in ears headphones to get a good perspective; from the top hybrids of 2021, typical 2022 planars (S12, Timeless, Raptgo, Dioko), budget models of all life (Spring 2, Ikko Oh10ā¦), through many Kz, Fiio practically everything, IMR models, single dynamic driver models (RSVā¦), passing through many Kz and yes, the most expensive ones, (QDC, Monarchs, Oracle, Mests, Z1rā¦etc etc) so yes, your opinion interests me.
I was able to try the Akg k712 pro and for the selling price in Spain it seems to me the best for classical. I would say that there is nothing better until you get into Edition xs terrain (price).
The K701/702 has a lot of people who love themā¦ Personally I think itās a really good brand.
Thanks a lot for you impression about these two sets! So far KL had the best bass tecture IĀ“ve heard in an IEM. Looking forward to demo Meteor
Unfortunately I have just been informed that my Akg N5005 will not be available for delivery.
I bought it from an external shop.
Anywayā¦ a pity.
Hmmm. Iāve been listening to the IE600 for a few days now, and the more I listen to them, the more Iām convinced that the difference between a $700 ( I bought them for $530 at a discount ) IEM and a $100 IEM is just that much! Sorry Olina, but 600 blew you away, but youāre still pretty good. Listening to music with 600 is like having a vacuum in your head and everything coming out of it
- Huummm probably sa6 ultra by a hair over meteor
- Meteor is a great sidegrade for anything since itās not the usual neutral with a bass boost. The combo of the two is all u need
They are pretty different.
Meteor is an U-shaped full BA and Top is a bass boosted neutral hibrid. (even tho you can make an argument about how symphonium woofers sound close to dds)
Meteor has more recessed mids and lower treble, more bass and upper treble. Top has neutral treble with some energy around 4.5k. The meteor is warm and has fuller signature where the meteor is more analytical and lean in the mids.
They are more sidegrades/compliments than direct competition, minus the price.
I prefer Meteor as a whole, but they are different. The meteor is warmer and had better treble response, where the ejs have more midrange. The texture might be better on ej, but this is all from memory since I havent owned one for a long time.
Technically, the meteors are superior.
I have owned the akg n5005 in the past and I loved them. Their presentation and accessories easily beats how most 1k iems are packaged today. In terms of sound they were almost identical to the kinera nannas. To the point that I had a/b more than usual for many hours. Ended up looking at their frequency graphs and they are almost the same. Unfortunately though I only owned them less than 60 days because the proprietary connectors were really bad. I bought them directly from akg and I got them replaced. Got the replacements and they also had connector issues. Itās unfortunate as I wanted to keep them but I ended up returning the replacement as well.

I tried A/Bing between Qudelix (bal, 4 vrms, 240mW per channel) and VE Megatron (bal, 4.9V, 300 mW per channel) using the Serratus. I had to really focus in a quiet room and A/B for several songs before I could arrive at a conclusion: very minor difference, where I think I hear slight improvement in the stage and bass quality (not sure which exact character) on the Megatron compared to the Qudelix. But very minor.
Both on USB or was the 5K on BT?
I am glad that people are questioning those stuff and try themselves
I honestly do believe there MUST be some kind of a difference because of the different physical paths that the signal is going through in different sourcesā¦ But when I hear some folks saying it is a night and day type of a difference it is really hard for me to grasp.
For me there is no night and day difference even between vido and serratus or between Cadenza and Mest
Btw, What RMS level are you outputting to q5k with Serratus?
A question @nymz.
Donāt you think that the Edition Xs has too much bass and, in comparison, a treble that is perhaps too flat?
Could it be because Iām only being able to amplify it (right now) with 240 mw at 32 ohms and itās not giving its true potential?
Music still is music, so yeah I agree. A gear that would bring a night and day difference would actually be kind of bad.
Both USB, same cable
I definitely noticed a difference between the Q5K and the Fiio BTR3K. The fiio was a bit warmer whereas the Q5K was slightly more clean and cooler. Having said that these differences were so small and I have experienced more noticeable changes changing tips
Yup, I agree. For me, itās: tips > driver >> source
Audiophiles like to believe these changes are as big as they are saying. When it really is not and most are just audiofooling themselvesā¦
There is not a night and day difference, but even though the differences are subtle and nitpicky, once youāre listening for them, theyāre there.
Example: Last night @Lcg842 was A/Bing Serratus and Ripples with me (yes, you have to give thoughts!) and was giving her opinions on āFundamental Elements of Madnessā since I wanted her to hear some of my test songs. I told her that one difference I heard was that on Serratus, the pianos sound big in the width and height of the soundstage. Ripples didnāt have the same kind of soundstage but the imaging and layering made one piano sound like three.
She listened again and once she was looking to hear a difference picked it up right away. Itās a subtle enough difference that you could miss it. But if you want to hear it, itās right there.
Thatās kinda an analogy for the hobby as a whole: You hear what you want to hear, and thatās kinda what matters
