" As for driveability, I would say they are on the average side of things. They require some power but most used sources in the market should suffice, including the usual dongles. Bluetooth DAC/AMPs like Qudelix5k shall suffice very well, as I’ve tested that as well one of the times I was shopping for groceries.
I am a source enthusiast, so what I am about to say should be taken with a grain of salt and keeping in mind YMMV: I think the Sennheiser IE600 scales a little bit with power and pairs better with slightly warmer or more analog sources.
I found the best results to be achieved with Class-A amps (Singxer SA-1, Hiby R5 Gen2), the more analog warmer sources like the iFi xDSD Gryphon or the more neutral and technical (Cayin N3Pro on Solid State). I also did extensive tests with the Topping E30+L30 stack, and it worked great as well, giving an edge on the treble and detail.
A last word on Gryphon, as I really enjoy the combo with the IE600: for bassheads you can just turn on the magical XbassII button to help you with that. I would recommend also using the presence switch to give both bass and upper mids, as it balances out the natural V-shape of the monitor. Xspace also works wonders for the presentation, although it will leave out the more natural or intimate feel of it." @cal_lando I guess our friend won’t be answering soon. This is part of nymz’s review. It says that it goes well with warmer sources.
Yeah I read that review which put it on the list for me. I was originally eyeing the mojo 2 which is similarly priced if looking at used offering although it doesn’t have BT. @nymz is one of the few people I know who have tried both and both the IE600 and Serratus
I have the Gryphon and the IE600 and am waiting for Serratus to arrive. I thought about adding the Mojo 2 to my arsenal, but enjoy the Gryphon so much i thought it would not get used. I know this might not address allnof your question, but I’m thrilled with the Gryphon/IE600 combination.
Right, when his mind was blown by the Aria, and he found the IE300 as good as he did, I realized he doesn’t have the same ear for IEMs as I do*, so his recommendations are unhelpful to me.
Partly I feel like he has less experience with IEMs than headphones, so less context for how good they can be in different areas?
EDIT: It’s weird he doesn’t actually say anything about the IE200 except reference graphs and price. The title of the video says it’s great though? Quite a strong title statement to not follow up on within the same video. A better title would be “looks promising”?
*I realize this could come across as very pretentious - by “doesn’t have the same ear” I mean different, not “not as good”.
We all hear differently, some reviewers have similar sensitivities and tastes to us, some don’t.
That is super helpful! Please let me know when how the Serratus is on it when it arrives. I am not pulling any triggers for a couple of months so Im not in a rush for information
to be fair this is just a youtube short and he did a full video of it where he goes into detail. The title is clickbait and he never really says its better than the IE600. Just that it is more neutral and would probably be generally more enjoyable to the masses for the price since the treble is brought down.
The technology in IE200 and IE 600 is different, I guess the driver is also different, the cameras are not the same, the shell is not the same, the cable is not the same. FR is also different, although some “competent influencers” are told that they are very helpful, which is not true.
Before I bought IE600 I had ordered IE200 and refused the order because it was clear to me that there is no way that IE600 is equal to IE200, there is no way !
And yes, the masses will not like the high frequencies, that’s why they are reduced. The IE200 is for general use, not audiophile listening.
I had the vents blocked and the bass went from “wet-noodle non-existent” to—> “slight bass boost”. Maybe my standards are just too high after hearing the Z1R, Serratus, DM, and other sets, but ya the bass still feels wimpy to me
Volume aside, the main problem is that it lacks the impact and feels hollow. I don’t feel as much air slam. The attack feels blunted, and soft/round like a BA making the texture too smooth.
Yeah, I don’t watch reviews very often, but I have a friend who sends me videos every now and then. I have seen a grand total of two if this guy’s reviews and I have to say that his opinions were very different from mine. Just as @rattlingblanketwoman said, I’m not saying my opinions are better just different and that his reviews are pretty useless to me because of how differently we apparently hear things.
I also have to admit that him doing this video looking like he just woke up kinda bugs me too. I’m all for being casual, but at least look like you’re trying. That’s just me though.
My new job doesn’t allow for the extended listening sessions that I used to have, so I have been doing some home listening in the evenings. Tonight was the OG Tea, and was reminded how good they really were. I own both the OG and the Tea2, and they are both pretty amazing.
I would keep OG. It is more different than the other offers. Tea2 is safer, kind of better, but you can find other sets that sound like it (yume 2, aful p5, …) While OG tea really is unique.
