Nice!! Can’t wait to see what shell you grabbed. Unless being the great NYMZ you got a special flair to it.

Here’s the shell I picked with the help of a few members. I’m a sucker for purple.

iirc, its ±2db.

But as @nymz mentioned, if its ±2db in a whole bass shelf or just a single peak, makes a HUGE difference between hearing it or not. And also if you arent lucky enough that say, the +2db side is on the side of your ear that is more unbalanced.

They appear to be tuned VERY similarly!

That’s what Prisma Audio does too

7th Acoustics needs to find some distributor soon, maybe Hifigo.

Super Reviews and Precog shilled the Supernova, must be an amazingly tuned set, graphs like an absolute beast!

I’m thinking about ordering one later this year as an upgrade to my B2 Dusk, what kilobuck IEM would pair well with the Supernova?

I’m not sure about one kilobuck that would pair well. I can tell you the Supernova is one of my favorite iems, and i pull it out more than the Z1R, Anole VX, MMK2, Andromeda 2020, and Odin. Precog nailed the review and experience. Plus, the buying experience was fantastic. I got to choose from 20 different abalone face plates.

Oh I am! I check email constantly each day to see if there’s any updates and it hasn’t even been 30 days.

I know that feeling, brother, trust me! One day, it’ll show up without you even noticing hopefully- that’s the absolute best feeling ever!

I was thinking Z1R personally.

The fact you own numerous TOTL sets and prefer the Supernova means it doesn’t need any pairings.

I’m traveling and brought my Z1R along to get more acquainted with it. The bass is so satisfying, and, to me, doesn’t take over the rest of the FR. I’m listening to the Tedeschi Trucks Band right now and loving it.

Hey. I just found I brought my Supernova too… so , if you’d like, send me a few songs to test and I can give you my impressions of the Supernova and Z1R on specific tracks.

Got to love having all those sets and forgetting you brought one with you. I didn’t realize both sets graphed so closely in the bass. Would be curious how they differ in response to one being an all BA set and the other having DD. Doesn’t look like the treble would make much of difference to change the perception of the bass.

Being a godfather of the IEM scene I’d love to hear the Z1R one day but, I have a hunch it’ll be a little to zingy/spicy for me on a lot of tracks I enjoy. The Supernova looks more idea seeing it doesn’t look to have any emphasis on a particular frequency from 2-5k.

From 1.5K onwards they have nothing in common. Different driver configuration, different price point, different libraries are responsible. I don’t understand why you started comparing the two IEMs. From what I’ve read in the reviews I don’t think Sony’s DD bass can be beat by a BA bass, it’s just an absurd comparison! :upside_down_face:

I don’t think it’s crazy to ask. You said it yourself in a form. Up to 1k they have very much in common. Looks to be even more close to 1.5k. If that hit someone’s idea target to that range maybe they’d like to know how they differ afterwards. Of course it’s library and user preference dependent. However, not everyone can just look at a chart and know what that may translate into sound. Even for BA vs DD bass which having never heard a Sony flagship I have no idea how good there driver may be. That’s where the discussion amongst the more informed members come in and to those who have them in their collection.

As for the price I’ve always wondered about the Z1R. After all it is Sony and they do seem to ask a premium for their sets even the older releases. Adding that they could also be taking advantage of the following and rep they and the Z1R have built. Which was established before the current craziness in releases we’ve seen in the last 1-2 years. Does the Z1Rs asking price still hold true to its performance today. Especially when boutique builders and ChiFi having been have been bridging the gap. Just maybe in todays market one of their $700 IEMs is relevant to the Z1R. Without discussion we’ll never know.

There should be a discussion, you’re right. I haven’t listened to the Z1R either, but I don’t think there are currently 600-700$ ChaiFi IEMs that come close.
