I don’t find it perfect for my preferences, but very good indeed. Fit is a major problem tho
I only own XR version tho.

The fit is similar, there’s a few different tips I find the clears or grays preserve the FR best and deliver on the comfort.
The XR is just the same with a bass boost for taste. Either are great. I personally prefer flat bass but either is great
If you’re okay with sacrificing some FR changes they do sell foam tips that are extremely Comfy
I have double and triple flange package.
Also stock foams, Compy T-100 and Comply P-Series. I’ve posted about it.
I generaly use ER2XR with complys because fit is still a bit meh for me, as I usually do long sessions.
When I use them I find if I don’t full deep insert the comfort is goofy.
Any luck with the comply? I always had issues with them personally being too large
Yes, I only use comply on them nowadays. My canals are a bit weird and upwards, so triple is a bit painful, double is okayish, foams are acceptable. Ofc that if I use them on a regular basis, this just gets surpassed. The main caveat to me is to do A/Bs vs them. A true troublesome
If Hekili is anything like the Lokahi in the mid and treble section, then it is a hard pass for me.
BA timbre quite strong in Lokahi, it sounds “cheap”. I do not think a DD will save it overall.
I thought they changed the BA drivers, but obviously they didn’t, they just added DD! Maybe that’s why they don’t comment on them and like it.
I received bunch of stuff today:
Kz CRN and 3 last earbuds I did not manage to test even for a second, but I would do some roundup for earbuds with LBBS and Qian39 on @Rikudou_Goku 's thread for sure at weekend. KZ CRN I want to try for this cheap famous Crin’s tuning (probably with some PEQ) and then sell it afterwards unless it is a killer of either S12/Olina/Tea which I doubt. All of those 4 I got almost for free in my city so I could not resist even after my last rant (<40$ in total)…
LBBS I tried for half an hour and I am really impressed - those are amazing - there is something in them that any IEM I own cannot touch. But would be covered in roundup. Comfort is a problem though, they just fall out
I did not cover anything more becouse of the speakers - OMG now I understand why people tend to say that speakers >>> headphones > IEM (and earbuds). I could not resist listening one song after another. They are doing something with music any other prortable device cannot - you feel the music with your body, you are surrounded with it, music resonates in your room and it is unrestricted. Comfort is also amazing obviously And this is freaking 100$ active set!!! What if you buy something proper.
One limitation for that is you need a friendly roommates/colleague or one with similar taste to listen whatever I like and lucky me have very junior guy next to me who has nothing to say hehe :joking:
LBBS is insane, I love it and it’s cheap compared to totl buds, which we all appreciate.
Yeah, speakers are on another level that I can’t do yet. To the future audiophile in me
You think this is complicated or expensive speakers are a whole new level. I think they are why I set a lower limit because I know what a great speaker system costs and what it sounds like. If you go down the rabbit hole it is awesome. Retirement and moving to smaller home is why I got out. I still have good speakers but not the great gear to bring out their best.
With IEMs you just get an IEM and maybe a source and you are set.
With speakers at some point you have to build a room around the speakers (positioning and room treatment), which is orders of magnitutes more complicated and expensive.
A lot of speaker setups in the 10k$ range sound arguably worse than a headphone/iem setup in the 1k$ range.
Yes it takes time knowledge and money you need the right dwelling with the right room. I say you could get very good sound for 10 k depending on room. Yes there are systems that are 100 k and more. I agree spending say 1500 on an Iem and a good source and amplification cheaper. Speakers can recreate the stage infinitely better if you have room
It depends on the recording. This with speakers sounds incredibly terrible when compared to a 5$ earbud:
For music, I found this to be a good example, where stage is better on IEMs then on speakers:
Theoretically you can get a better stage with headphones more realistically than with speakers. That is cause you don’t have to consider crosstalk/room acoustics and have more control over what reaches the separate eardrums. You would need to measure your HRTF for the perfect stage and have a proper recording setup. That being said, you are right, that in most cases speakers achieve a better stage practically speaking, since no one knows their HRTF and examples like the one I posted are rare to come by.
@nymz do you find the stock tea cable microphonic? I’ve been using them a lot for gaming and am starting to get annoyed with being able to hear everything the cable is rubbing on. Do you have any recs for replacements? I know that xinhs makes quality stuff and are decently priced.
I don’t like stock teas cable. The one that came with my OG sounds different… Like it’s phased or borked.
Xinhs gets an easy rec, yes
Hmm… Sigh. Guess I gotta bring Ricardo and not nymz for this post
In my line of work, or on most other areas, when you stick your neck out, it can go both ways. But you are pushed to try to, to risk it for the biscuit.
Brands and IEMs are exactly that. When you put something out there, you are sticking your neck out. Reviewers might like it, consumers might like it - or it might go the other way around. There’s no second chance for a first impression, so your set has to be the one speaking, not your marketing or vague words.
Reviewers are humans and have opionions and transparency, which also makes them vulnerable to manipulation, known as shilling around the block. Those who don’t shill, get the heat sometimes, but that’s the game.
I don’t shill, and that’s my first rule for a review. Other than that, I wanna try anything I can get hold of. I paid for most of the stuff I’ve heard to date with my own money, so there’s s that. I try to help and I carry forward. I’ve sent sets to other people inside EU on a leap of faith so other people can try them and get opinions out.
Most reviewers, like me, do reviews for the passion and to help other people make informative decisions. Who knows how many sleepless hours go into a review, just like they go on a set assembly. It’s all for the love of music.
Preferences take a toll, even if some characteristics of a set can be universal, it always comes down to preferences and libraries. You can’t expect everyone to like your product just like not every reader will agree with you. That’s why there’s so much of us out there.
So, you might be asking, why am I bringing this out? Well, one of my last takes got some gossip behind my back to other reviewers.
Now, to the person himself, Nicholas, face of the brand AüR: you try to throw shade behind my back, you get public shame. You got a free take and now you get a free burn.
You product is trying to compete on a predatory bracket, without matching it, and the first thing you tell me about it’s the price will increase to 800 usd? Without a balanced tuning, proper techs or anything out of the box? I don’t care what you say, the sound has to match the price.
I won’t even descend to your level and show prints of you talking about me or other brands, sellers or just being straight out rude.
Your claims are over the moon, especially when you say your iems shit on other that cost two or four times the price. It’s all fun and games until it isn’t.
I didn’t even destroyed your set, and I could of, but out of respect to the loaner and your passion to the hobby deserved more, until now. The reason I even asked to listen to it was because two other soon to be customers asked for it. You dont agree with my review? Sure, but prove me I’m wrong on the stamps I posted. Let the music prove it, and that’s why it’s there. It’s not my fault people got scared and backed off on orders.
You could have been professional and we kept going our ways, as I even told you I was interested in your other sets. Now I’m not and you’re blacklisted.
When you promise the sun, you might get a burn.
Ps: when you say now you making a tribid to be Tea killer… First as already been done. Second Teas arent the best IEM in the world. Third, you won’t make it, Abel will
Guess which IEM brand I’m never touching
It’s funny when brands just want positive reviews…
Aür or to be exact, Nicholas, just made a huge damage to his brand reputation. He could just kept quiet, accept criticism and move forward.
Guy is not very business savvy hun?
Welp. Brands who don’t respect reviewer integrity get no respect from me in return. When I (inevitably) move into this price segment, I’ll make sure to remember not to cover AuR products.
