Official "Is Z a shill?" thread

seems like BGGAR has many chips on their shoulder for not being as successful in making money off of YouTube. I do understand some of his views to a point. some have turned their hobby into their livelihood and it has become their ‘job’ as it were. I’d also agree that there will be some out there who are shills who will say or do whatever to get you to send money, even if it means they are crossing the line and not being ethical. in this case, it’s a situation where the 1% ruin it for the rest

however, most of them are honest and they’re dong it for fun and with our support, they become a reliable resource. Josh n Z get a lot of stuff sent into them to review, but take a look at Z’s walls, they’re full of gear he spent his money on.

like JV said, I don’t have a problem with someone using their success to create a business and revenue stream. if they get called out on something, if they’re legit they’re not going to deny, cover or rationalize excuses. this hasn’t happened with Z. I think, though, with his drive to raise the $25K for the RMAF, he could be transparent and show the costs the event did incur and if there is surplus, ask those who donated what it should be used for. I say this because these monies are for a specific purrpose, not like Patreon where you are giving him money with no strings attached. you may be motivated for the same reason to give funds both ways, but they’re not connected. he could be really big and give the monies to a charity (maybe create a charity for children that raises funds for audio gear in school settings) or take a vote on what piece of gear it should be used to purchase for Z to review.

You just have to realize that this is a business and there is no unbiased opinion out there (lol). It’s unavoidable and it honestly depends on the person for weather it’s a bad thing or not. So bottom line just make your own decisions is what I think BGGAR was really trying to get across

yup…but he was questioning their integrity, which actually colors his rant and makes his intentions suspect. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I wonder…

Edit: wouldn’t let me post without without adding “I wonder…”

I appreciate good consumer advocates, I dont care where its coming from or ulterior motives as it is a benefit for everyone to put the consumer first when possible(basically 100%). Z has incentive to hype, but as an entertainer his personality contributes as well. So I try to be objective with him, aka shine a spotlight and then see what others are saying too. He doesnt always have the scoop, but he is a great source for whats out there. I knew to grain of salt, but some young uns may be more gullible, I mean we are talking about young mellinials or younger. So he (bggar) is doing good even if its ass backwards. No shade to anyone as we are all trying to get by.

I come to Z for his personality and technical information. I don’t come to him for audio/sound reviews (though I seem to agree with him from what I can tell). The guy barely talks about sound quality or sound signature aspects so I’ve pretty much given up on that aspect.

what you say is true. but what he does share is the emotional connection we’re trying to make/achieve with the music we listen to. he also does speak about bass, sub-bass, mid-bass, mids and treble, if there are issues with them.

His (Z’s) Swans M300 review was where I pretty much gave up on him for sq reviews. An entire review of the M300 and not one single word about how they compared to the previous model that was 29 bucks less (and they were sitting there the entire time). Just unbelievable.

the thing I dont like too much about this guy is his tendency to go into tangents about his so called OCD and picking up details in music. it seems oddly pretentious and ignorant.
by this guy I mean BGGAR

The videos I’ve seen and what limited interactions I’ve had with BGGAR make me believe he’s not too intelligent, tbh. Extremely full of himself without the intellect/brightness to back it up. Perhaps a case of Napoleon Complex?

He’s pretty accurate for iem sound quality imo, going off of what I and a couple other people I had heard, it does line up if you can get past the attitude. He can be pretty anal about sound for iems. Don’t really trust his headphone and amp reviews though. But he does easily find things to nitpick in daps that might be glossed over in other reviews imo

funny…this thread is about Zeos, but we’re talking about all sorts of other reviewers that I never know who’s being talked about anymore, LoL!

I agree bought my t3 under his reccomendations and love them and he was pretty on point but so was z in that respect. but the more I watch him his attitude just sucks he has a way of instead of just pointing out what he notices brings it around to himself and some sort od quirk he seems to have that managed to pick it up. where personally I’m just observant and a average human being picks the stuff out he describes with relative ease.

Well he’s famous for inaccurate technical information. He even said in a review that he want to be a happy reviewer which means he doesn’t want to know technical details.

I’m referring to when he shows you exactly the technical functionality of the product.

Zeos is just entertaining. His interpretation of products is HIS interpretation and YOU must make yours.

Something I just realized that he said 58x will destroy the market and because of his review people would buy it.

Now I’m looking at Drop sales and 6xx is 81.1k, while 58x is 31k. Even PC37x which is released recently sold 33.1k. It seems his reviews aren’t that influential after all especially when he doesn’t like 650/6xx that much.

The 6XX has been around for a long time, though. It was first sold to the public in late 2016. 58x has been around for… about a year?

And the 650 was massive before massdrop obviously as well. The 58x was a new product

Still PC37x shouldn’t have beaten 58x.
