Planar recommendation strictly for music?

Hmm, so I think I will try to find these used if possible as well for the Aeon. I do like these but I feel if I can buy them off another person I can save some money this would definitely be my second headphone and I would prefer to have a little extra funding to purchase a good amp for in like the liquid silver. Cut corners where I can and all that… Meanwhile I should probably focus on the asgard 5(all rounder) and RNHP(specifically for headphone) for the DT 1990s as I will more than likely find those cans first. Going to post around wherever I can looking for these. Hopefully I can find what I am looking for or someone will find me.

Alright, so I wanted to drop this question in here as a question for these Aeons. SO just in general I really like these ear cups are odd and it has quite a bit of weight to it. Wanted to ask is there actually a headphone out there thats even close to this in sound signature? How is the Ether CX closed backs? Perhaps Audeze? think audeze were like a flat sound though… any comparisons for these or are they just in their own area. Sendy aiva maybe?

i really like my modhouse argon mk3,
maybe you will too?

Ether CX is a bit different from the Aeon X. Apart from it being closed, it’s also more neutral. Audeze have a range, depending on what you get. I have the LCD-2F, which is generally a warm signature with great bass and a rich sound. Other Audezes differ, and generally tend more toward neutral, but maintain good bass impact. Both Ether and LCD series (aside from LCD-1) may be pushing your $500 max you’ve mentioned in one of these threads, even used.

Honestly, I’d say find something you like and settle in with it for a bit to get to know it and hone your preferences. The range you’re getting into is where you start to see shifts in preferential nuance as opposed to vast improvements in sound quality and swings in signature, so it’s more important to really know what you want out of a headphone. If the 1990 and Aeon suit your preferences right now, enjoy them for a while, and do research while you figure out what changes you want so you’ll know where you might find them.

So, been trying to describe this sound I am looking for and asked mon for help. Theres a very particular sound I found in the Sundara and Aeon that I found I really love about both of them. I guess the best way to describe it is that the headphone is not intimate, or up close, yet has a large soundstage and has this sound of depth to it. It creates this kind of vibe of like your sitting in a theater or stage. At the same time that bright warmth these two provide is nice. I was wondering if there are others like this with this style of sound. The reason I am asking? The aeons don’t fit my ears properly I can’t wear them for extended periods, possibly due to the heavyness, clamping force, and the fact they feel more like a closed back while hugging the outer ridges of my ears. So, now I am officially on a HUNT for this ideal headphone I found my sound now I need it with comfort. Does not have to be a planar but I love that planar sound. Also, @M0N thanks for the help on that description still learning terminologies edit: for the record… have any idea how mad this makes me at this friggin headphone? like, not even kidding I adore this sound but i LITERALLY cannot wear it due to the pads. Absolutely livid right now.

So mainly a wider sounding v shaped can with good spatial recreation with good speed and slam? I mean I think the edition xx might really be up your alley, but it might be a tad lacking in treble presence perhaps. If that doesn’t fit your ears then I have no clue what would lol

The treble on the aeon and sundara both were slightly lacking while they were detailed with sparkle they were pushed back. if the edition xx is like that it may be worth looking into my concern is the darn ear cup size at this point anymore. I think I am like a mutant at this point I have trouble with most headphone pad sizings.

You really can’t get larger than that lol, if that didn’t fit you, you might have to pick up one of those jecklin float you were clowning on lol

If you wanted a brighter signature like the sundara, the hifiman ananda might be appealing imo

The edition xx would be darker than the andanda, with a bit more recessed midrange but a bump in the bass, the ananda would have more of a signature like the sundara but different presentation (as would the xx)

Many consider the ananda as an upgrade to the sundara, but it’s got a much larger sound to it, more grand, with more width and a more unique presentation

I swear… if i pick that edition xx up and it doesnt fit. gonna be mad. I did say my ears are massive can’t really help it. I suppose Maybe I should start looking at dimensions… the 1990s fit my ears like… perfectly they do sit barily on the top of my ear but its not uncomfortable. Then again velour isn’t going to be very uncomfortable bumping on your ear… leather on the other hand different story.

I just really don’t like the idea of going with hifiman. that qc concerns me as it is. Was hoping there was an alternative. Sundara and aeon are both bright and warm didnt know about ananda or xx

I mean, perhaps an audeze lcd x actually? (can be) V shaped, good size, nice slam, is a bit intimate but solid layering, a bit more forward.

The lcd 2f would have a larger soundstage, a bit warmer and smoother signature, not as forward, more laid back, also slightly less detailed than the lcd x but more impact

Keep it in the $600 range please lmao Least then I can get it used for cheaper. Let’s see… like I said… aeon perks was low was detailed present raised due to v signature and slightly boomy it had a really good slam to it due to planars, mids were recessed yet not bad and were very detailed and clean with quite a bit of clarity, timbre was good, highs were bright and sparkled and detailed while being pushed back. meanwhile the sound was warm yet not intimate, with a medium sound stage width, and has noticeable depth to it. I think thats the best way I can describe it at the moment. LCD 2f? I only know 2 and classic 2

Literally not finding a 2f anywhere lol

LCD X can be had for around 850 used, a good condition LCD 2 can be around the 600 range, or used to be at least

That sounds more like a lcd x more, but not exactly the pushed back treble.

This sounds more like the lcd 2

Sorry, 2 fazor is what I mean, most of the modern units for sale will be fazor unless marked otherwise so essentially just a lcd 2. Only the lcd 2.2 up to 2014 or any lcd 2.1 will not have a fazor

No idea where to even look on that one. confusing and all of these are labelled Lcd-2 doesnt state about fazors which is annoying… Any other ideas outside of these audeze and the hifis you suggested? theres got to be others…

I mean if you are going for planars with a larger earcup, in the price range it gets somewhat limited imo, you really don’t have many more options

Ignore what I said, just search lcd 2. You would look for lcd 2, sorry for overcomplicating things lol, don’t worry about the fazor things. The lcd x will pretty much always have a fazor so no worries there

Looked up lcd 2… thats way outside the budget and lcd x is even worse. Did find the ananda for about $500. Looks like I have to rule out Audeze.

If we are running out of planars is there like a dynamic, neodym, or tesla driver or something of the other drivers thats like this? No idea about tesla or electrostatic never tried them i dont think

I mean you could grab a beyer t1, you might really like that actually imo (and you seem to be good with beyer pads). There isn’t much off the top of my head bigger than that for a dynamic in this price cat

Tesla is just a stronger magnet stuck on a headphone by beyer, the 1990 are tesla drivers, and neodymium is just another type of magnet, not really that different from most dynamic

Ahhhhhh I didn’t even think of this, the koss esp95x have really large cups and would most likely be nice, but they might not exactly match your sonic preferences and you also might want to grab dekoni 95x pads with them. I wouldn’t recommend other electrostatic in this price range though besides the 95x

For the 95x I think you would like the speed, detail, clarity, imaging and separation, also not recessed but not forward treble, but might not like the lack of bass impact and extension, the nice but not that wide stage (but you actually might be ok with this), also timbre isn’t the best but it doesn’t bother me, but it’s not great

Alright, I have seen that koss several times on here by people but nobody really mentions the t1 that much… whats the sound on them… are they similar to what I am looking for? also holy mother of wtf those pads are massive on that koss hahahah
