Bruh let the man buy what he wants
the swing here is AT MOST 15% less subbass/bass the bassiest headphone here(that’s saying a lot since the bassiest headphones here are bassy AF)
the price swing is $100ish and some change, and there are 3 fucking versions of the M570 with great reviews… AT OVER $600
HE IS GOING TO LOVE THEM… or for a small fee HE IS GOING TO RETURN THEM AND BE BETTER OF ON HIS CHOICE FOR IT?
Would I get the M570’s? No but if they were $250 I would, before even the M1060’s and argons maybe.
Let’s be clear here there is an objective optimal headphone triforce
1.cheap- it has sold well made R&D and that us why it is cheap due to price drop
2.rave-reviews all around on multiple toplists, gets rated S/A tier
3.reletively new- like 3-4 years or so is optimal, combined with the top 2 this completes the fact they are steller, everyone loves them, and they sold a shitload so you can get them at the best price
the M570’s may never get to this point like the M1060’s or sundara’s they have SOME claims in every department, so top tier optimal?
No, and they may never be
but really damn good in all 3, yes, he likes the way they look
let him buy them and tell us his thoughts and maybe one day in the future they will be the new sundara or M1060 and we can all buy them for $250 and OP will still think his money is well spent when they become legends, right now there is not much as NEW and promising as these in the price range and if OP loves them and they stay ~$400 WHO THE FUCK CARES ALSO MONEY WELL SPENT!
I make votes so I can shirk responsibility for recklessly spending my money, I have like $800 worth of shit people voted on for me and I bought, OP is the exact opposite and I respect it.
Go and get your M570’s OP and make sure you buy with a credit card that offers an additional 1 year warranty free so that you can have an insane 6 year warranty and as long as you love em keep em and you will not regret the $400 spent for 6 years of insured prime audio, whether it’s the best optimal maximum good decision or just really great, doesn’t matter!
EDIT I just realized they are $200 damn good buy
TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS
@schmu I jumped to the bottom of this thread to say this…so don’t know if it’s been said yet. if it it has, pardonaymoi.
you will need a better amp. while planars may have low impedance, they need POWER to drive them. without that power, they will always sound anemic and disappointing. you will never see why they are so good.
Going from the data in this video and doing some number-from-ass-pulling, you can guess the following:
P(w) = U(v) x I(a) = I(a) x R(Ω) x I(a)
23mW = 250Ω x I²
23mW / 250Ω = sqrt(0.000092A) = 0.0095A
U(v) = sqrt(P x R) = sqrt(23mW x 250Ω) = 2.4-ishV
2.5V peak to peak voltage swing would be desirable, 2.4 is good enough. So Motu M2 into 250 Ω headphone works.
Assuming 22-ish mW into 37 Ω, the Ohms-Law dance gives 0.9V. I’d say that is not even close to target voltage swing.
“Hard to drive” can mean very high impedance, meaning an amplifier may struggle to get significant current flowing through the driver. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, the voltage the amplifier wants to build just flows away through the driver.
In case of planar headphones (low impedance, low efficiency), it is the later.
Maybe a bit much to ask, but would you consider doing a small write up about this sometime and post it in a separate post? The question of will amp X have enough power for headphone Y is one I see often and that way people can link to that topic for explanation. I, for one, don’t know what a peak to peak voltage swing is, but knowing it needs to be around 2.5 and having a way to calculate whether the amp-HP combo gets there is very handy to know.
And not just the planar idea, but any ideas of “tight and punchy” from any hp that would otherwise be capable of delivering it for you. They just can’t get that refined without the correct, i.e. dedicated, hardware.
Going to test the M1070 today already, maybe also the Sivga Phoenix since they are available second hand (good as new) aswell. Not planar, but judging by description those could be something I like.
Living in a big city comes in handy.
Testing the M1070 was kinda funny. They did not fit me at all lol.
There was literally no clamp force for me (turns out I have a slim & tiny pencil as a head?).
They were just dangling around like two big stones connected by a string.
Sound was to my liking - he had them connected to a Schiit DAP… think Jotunheim.
Brought some flacs & wavs on a USB.
However - the fit distracted me alot.
The guy was nice & looked a bit guilty when I asked about the clamp lol, almost felt bad.
(I know you can bend the metal to change the clamp - but for the price, the lack of an invoice or warranty paper I didn’t want to risk it.)
Anyways… went to check out the Sivga Phoenix just 10 minutes from my place by bike.
Those were on my list of dynamic headphones for a while now.
Fit was good, probably due to my peasized head. No problems with pads.
(I was concerned after reading some reviews)
Tested them only with my phone (Xiaomi Mi A2 lite… actually not a horrible DAC) and those hit the spot.
Sure, they don’t feel suuper fast or the mooost detailed, but they had alot of the things I was looking for.
Sounded good already on my phone playing some jazz, funk, techno, rock flacs.
They also produced the meaty & tight kick I was looking for.
So yeah lol… For sure want to try the M570 once they’re somehow easier to get in europe!
But for now
I watched that too and thought “how bad could it be”.
But since the Phoenix was also not very tight on my head it’s safe to assume that my skull is damn tiny.
(I actually had to carefully bend the metal a little bit inwards to increase clamp)
So maybe it works amazing for others.
edit… 24 hrs later… think i’ll spent my money on music instead of going after new headphones lol… the Phoenix does literally all I want from a headphone and more… maybe if I have alot of disposable income i’ll check the focal elegia & some closed planars… until then Sivga it is.
