PSA: Topping L30 Damaging Headphones

i do believe it has something to do with rolling changes made without proper testing or regulation stated by someone at the company. unfortunately i was banned on the ASR forum for saying chinese companies dont have good business practice. wonder why? lol he still hasnt changed his review to warn of anything, very revealing .

This is one of those situations where actions will speak louder then words. If the first reports were “My L30 blew and took my headphones with them; both of those were sent to Toppings for hopefully analysis and eventual replacement if it seems like that was the cause of the simultaneous headphone failure” then this would not have blown up as big as it has. But that is not what happened. What happened was the person got told to pay it to ship it to Topping and they will replace the amp which frankly does a fat lot of good to the person who is now out the cost of their headphones. And that is the rub in all this.

I think most people here and on ASR understand things will fail. It just happens. Cables fail, pads fail, headphones fail etc. You sell thousands of units something will eventually go wrong. That is why we have warranties. If the amp just up and died and you followed your standard warranty process then most people would not have cared. Maybe a few people would make some comments about the quality and stuff but I assume for the most part the quality and line-up of a companies products speak for themselves regardless of where it is manufactured and overall would not tarnish a companies reputation significantly.

If you are talking about my experience, Topping offered to pay for my shipment to China, I told them that I would not go out during lockdown to arrange a shipping to china from the EU. They, as a company, would have to arrange it for me, since I was already trying to help them by trying to get it back to the lab to analyze it instead of sending it back to amazon to have my money back in 24h and the item picked up by my house.

They told me that they could not get it back in any other way, so it went back to Amazon. Nobody contacted me, it was my initiative to try and help them getting it back.

You are from Reddit, right?
I may have overlooked it on ASR, but I can’t seem to find an “all good now”-post there either.

Yeah I’m the guy who posted on reddit! My ending is that I got refunded by amazon (italy), that took down the L30 from the sale after my email where I described my incident with the amp, guess they must be concerned

Thanks for the information. I was really looking forward to appearance of Topping A30 pro, but now I have no desire to buy it, like other topping amp. Since most likely, there will be no dc protection.

The statement is accurate. Weather or not the people in those chats are telling the truth I can’t say. Z gave me this info directly.

I think they are talking about the first four. Like on mine the S/N is 2010**** and I’ve had them since early December. They have worked fine so far but I plan on sending them back anyway, better safe than sorry in my opinion. I already have an order for THX AAA 789 so as soon as they come in the L30 is on its way.

Oh, mine is 2010 too

hey guys where do we check batch numbers?

on the right side of the amp there should be a sticker with a number I believe people are just saying the first 4 digits of it mine is 2009 and I’ve had no problems but I quit using it yesterday since I found this out the night before I used it for like 6 hours straight with new headphones glad I didn’t get f***ed :scream:

though some things that worry me is that when I bought it the power ac adapter was somehow broke through the box it came in during shipping I guess and it also had a strong chemical or electrical smell to it for some reason still has a smell to it too nowhere near as strong i gotta put my nose right next to it to smell it now

Amir is an employee of the company that owns Topping and bunch of other Chi-Fi brands. He does social media type stuff for them.

Well, maybe not an employee but a hired gun. Regardless, they give him money.

For the record, I have no issue with Chi-Fi (love my LP).

I don’t think LP - if you mean Liquid Platinum - qualifies as ChiFi. It’s certainly manufactured in China, but it was designed by Alex Cavalli for Monoprice, neither of whom are Chinese.

Typically ChiFi means audio products that are designed and manufactured by Chinese companies.

If LP (designed by Alex Cavalli and built in China) is Chi-Fi so is Apple’s Airpods and Beats lines.

Chi fi is absolutely not stuff designed and regulated by actual competent companies in the west and made in china for the cheap labor. chi fi to me is smsl and topping and things designed by chinese designers that cut safety corners to scam people through ASR for measurements. You could say that if you want but then there needs to be a different word for chinese designed products not just made.

i got banned immediately when i pointed out the only review of amir that doesnt have anything about where and how he got the amp is for the l30 and he refused to put a warning on the review even now to my knowledge. he is a scam and this shows it. you cant question chinese authority or brands in that forum you will be called racist and banned instantly just for saying “chinese brands are showing their colors” as if they didnt shit all over schiit products daily calling them american made trash. its braindead how smart they think they are over there. they love to hate this forum as well. like actually hate for no reason other than people like things they dont due to measurements.

It’s a mutual hatred here we kinda dislike them over there cause they don’t use their ears enough. A majority of them don’t seem to trust their ears to determinewhether something sounds good or not and are willing to think something isn’t good just cause it measured worse than another product

very true not to get off topic so yes the response to the l30 and ASR being linked by that topping employee in this thread is very suspect and should be a warning to everyone .

I’m just kinda sadenned to see how topping is doing as of recent as a proud owner of a couple of their older products. And someone who has reccomended this very amp to one of my friends shit like this is what sets the budget market back

Isn’t Monolithic/Monoprice Chinese? I thought it is. I know Dr. C is an American. Either way, I don’t have an issue with the country of origin of a product. All I care about is the quality (both audio and build).
