The PULA Anvil sound signature so far:
The Bio - Cellulous (Treated Paper Cone) Dynamic Drive was a fantastic choice just like I was talking about the Titanium plated unit in the Zephyr and how well they were suited for the tuning - so is this driver for the Anvil.
Bio Dynamic Drivers normally has a sound signature for me of deep elastic bass that’s very organic and normally characterized by a slower decay and a rich textured sound that can pull down low without distortion and maintains good control over the cone.
The Anvil in combination of the balanced tuning and without that huge harmonish sub focused bass boost and scoop, makes this driver in it’s gentle and substantial easy Glide into the mid bass to add in body and weight to the bass as well as real slam and attack - real bass!
Kick drums have a drum skin spund with texture, body and weight. With a really nice decay to give bass notes a full and natural sound. The Anvil has the ability to layer the bass and allow the notes to finish. Simply superb tuning and a well chosen driver.
Then when the bone conductor driver gets going. It adds in, it’s special sauce to the mix.
Girl is a gun a track by Halsey. Just a sound impression of this one I was listening to it was just a wow at the start of this track. The anvil pulled down low so low so fun. I actually just had to keep playing that beginning of that track just a bunch of times.
On “The funeral”, the track by a Band of Horses, if someone were to ask me, does the bone conduction driver do anything well, just listen to the track and the strings of the guitar. It vibrates your inner ear hairs in a way and gives you a special kind of harmonics that you don’t get with other kinds of drivers.
That’s it specail sauce!
The rest of the tuning is so masterfully. Done with the overall very balanced tuning.
The base glide lends itself to a very clean mid-range, with great detail and resolution and then transitions into a gentle ear gain, and then as we climb into the upper mids and very extended treble. Everything stays in such control with a smooth natural tonality.
If we look at the overall frequency response curve, the whole thing stays within 9 to 10 db from peaks to dips.
“Navidad”, by the Gypsy Kings, wow, acoustic guitar and the combination of that bone conduction driver is doing adding to the natural sounding mids, making instrumental and vocals So damn good.
Top end details were also stand out and very, very smooth, even with so much details.
That’s all I have for now on the Anvil, still listening and writing down my thoughts, taking my time on this one not sure when it’s releasing? 11:11 I think
