I donāt use EQ most of the time, but even with I have headroom at 0dB and the value remain dame.
In free-field conditions (so not in ear canal) you loose 6dB of signal strength for each double of the distance from the reference point (so if you measure 60dB 1m away from source it should be 54dB 2m away from source and 48dB 4m away). In closed area like ear canal it is not as dramatic drop as the waves are reflected and interfere with each other, but still you loose.
Sensitivity values are not used in principle for determining any expected real listening volume (or if needed for rough reference), but rather for reference of how efficient the transducer is in converting electrical energy to mechanical one (acoustic). No safety related measurements should be based on that value, so everything needs to be measured IRL - also because sound waves in real life are many, many times more complex than sine waves and itās perception is even more complex (you got phon curves, A weighting etc)ā¦
Haha yeah it seems like it. Its just interesting as the there doesnāt seem to be a lot of real world value for the SPL feature on the Qudelix as itās not useful for understanding safe listening volumes
Fwiw, european law say that any sound device (dap, phones, etcā¦) Must be limited in power output by the SPL it can produce with the default set it comes with.
That goes the same way as @pylaczynski says: noone ever base any volume measurement on a sourceās power output
Best audio purchase of the year - 10$ TPU case for Qudelix5k. It is not only protective, nicely made and fitting snugly, but also great from usability perspective - it covers those pesky buttons, so they are flushed with the case.
Since I applied it to this device I never had some accidental ghost button presses in pocket and before it was once or twice a day (making me miss some important calls sometimes)!
Plastic is not very good at RF signal isolation so in theory it should be attenuating on negligible level. From my experience I donāt feel any difference at all, but I am not using qudelix far from source at all (like max 5m and one 7cm wall in between)
Just dropped in to say holy cow is this device a game changer. The parametric EQ presets pretty much make every headphone I own sound better than in much higher tier / more powerful gear (Asgard 3, etc)
Iām running on Mac so now I plan to try Rogue Amoebaās SoundSource to see if I can get paraEQ presets working on desktop like they do on Qudelix 5k. If I canāt, Iāll be using this as my ādesktop ampā from now on - presets make that much of a difference.
