Biggest problem I have with the 1540 pads on the M40x is getting them to STAY ON, as they come off really easy. The others… UGH
Amen, brother. I think this is one of the things that inspired me to get into audio. I found that I could pick and choose manufacturers who are genuinely interested in creating something useful, durable, and beautiful, as opposed to churning out crap by the truckload. As soon as Focal outsources operations to China, I’ll drop them like a hot turd. Same with Beyerdynamic if they ever stop making their stuff in Germany. I really want the HP-3s, but Klipsch, a supposedly American company, is too cheap to make them locally, yet still slaps an outrageous price tag on them. Profit-mongering at its worst. No, thank you.
A quote (from the Simpsons, I think). Corporate executive: Why do corporations do anything? (Slight pause to allow the word profit to automatically spring to the viewers’ minds.) Corporate executive answers her own question: To help people.
Right.
That is how one gets aquired by the cat…
The second hand market for audio in Romania is absolute dogshit.
It’s full of equipment from the 80s and 90s, not even the good ones, that were imported by truck from the West, that they’re now selling like they were the most legendary fucking equipment to ever leave the factory.
They’re not. They never were. And now they’re also old as shit and probably need service.
You know the stuff you’d buy with 5$ from a (junk)yard sale? Nah bruh. IT’S LEGENDARY! 200$ NON-NEGOCIABLE!
Don’t get me started with speakers…they’re asking fucking retail for a pair of used Elac bookshelves that are discontinued. Or sometimes they even ask more than the prices you could find the speakers when they were still sold.
Fucking disgrace.
You haven’t tried to sell or buy something in Slovakia man.
I super hate selling my gear or anything tbh. like currently I have all the headphones I wanna sell listed in audio section on second hand marketplace that is full of fcking beats. I have over 90 views on some but 0 contact for actual buying.
This day for me has been a disaster and it sucks that it happened in an ironic way. I was basically planning to clean my PC for today while I was waiting for the Compressed air can that I ordered. When the compressed air can finally arrived at my door step along with the SpinFit CP100s that I have ordered, I immediately started to get to work. I carried my PC case downstairs, open up the side panels and blast it with compressed air removing all of the dusts along with the Q Tips and cottons I used. After the cleaning was done, I put it back on my desk, switch on the PSU switch and guess what? it doesn’t turn on and I was like confused and becoming a bit frustrated because I knew I never touched any parts of my PC case in order to clean it. Now it’s becoming worse it still does not turn on, so what I basically did is this, I used the spare PSU that is lying around here and I know it is working for that PC, plug it on with the rig I am using, turned on the switch but alas, it does not turn on. I am really sadden by this unfortunate event that unfold before me, for the thing that will make my PC clean would be the one to end its life. I am so sad and angry for this to happened and it sucks big time.
i wish there was an actual headphone shop nearby me because i cant afford hundreds of dollars just to see what a balanced armature or planar driver sounds like and what i would want in certain headphones like that
I hear that! Shopping for audio is getting tough generally. I totally agree it would nice if there were more and more accessible brick-and-mortar stores with good selection and prices so you can demo gear before throwing dollars at it.
OTOH, buying somewhat blind probably helps keep the resale market alive…
So I’ve started to develop a concept of the difference between TotL and just really good amp and it annoys me because I dont know if its real or in my head.
Its like I can feel the audio. When you push the volume on amps the amp’s behaviour in how it resolves music, to my ears, changes. Ands its almost like compression… Really hard to describe lol… but like…
okay. When you push a really good amp the dynamic ranges seems to collapse after a certain point. Certain frequencies all become equal loudness.
So I’m listening to Ex:Re’s album today on both my TT2 and my Ifi black label. I like my music loud, not deafening but loud. On the tracks Dazzler and I Can’t Keep You there is a strong Drum strike in both songs.
With the Ifi Black label if you push above a certain volum that Drum strike becomes REALLY LOUD in the mix not in a bad way just with a real heft to the strike that cant be ignored (I kinda like it tbh). All the background element gets pushed closer in the mix.
On the Hugo TT2, a dac amp measurably more expensive than the Ifi black label, that simply doesnt happen. You can push it as loud as you can stand and the mix and staging remains perfect
Edit I feel like Zeos Klipsch Heresy 4 review is a potential example of this. His amps can unload a huge amount of power but something about the power handling on the crowns made the tweeters become shouty when he pushed the volume and he had to turn to biamping to attenuate the tweeter output down
that a measly power adapter is an accessory that in reality is a must and costs half as much as the bloody device it’s for.
here’s looking at you iFi Zen DAC… <_<
Sometimes I wonder if I should get that Nano USB thing Ifi makes
I’ve never read much positive on the nano. the micro outshines it so badly…
yeah. I have the Micro. It’s really good.
Was referring (badly) to this, the Ifi micro iusb 3
I have no clue if this works just seems like a lot of people include it in their stacks as a linear supply for the black label
becoming an audiophile means accepting that power cords and interconnects aren’t snake oil and that maybe the jitterbug and isilencer do something
So, I guess it is safe to say that this week for me has been nothing but bad luck lately. First my PC got broken and now being brought home back to my main home to get checked, and now earlier, when I was trying to to remove my Tin T2s from the TRN cable that I just ordered last week, now broken because the MMCX pin that is being held by the cable has been severed meaning the left part is now broken. I am not having a fun week tbh and it is getting into my nerves it’s like some kind of an anime series like every time a guy does something not so harmful or just normal to begin with, he gets fucking unlucky all the time and it sucks so bad so far but at least my T2s are still alive but it sucks I have to get a new cable for it again. Please have a better week than me and not experience any unfortunate events further.
Just had a look at that thing. 3€ worth of components, sold for 50€, and then it is missing the most important component of noise filtering:
Common Mode Choke
I get my A level results that determine what University I go to tomorrow so my week could either get much better or a hell of a lot worse lol
They have to leave room for all that snake oil to go somewhere.
I guess.
Some chinese dude in his shed figured it out:
Anyone interested in an electronics 101 thread?
An electronics thread would be interesting. Also what is the point of USB jitter reduction devices? Wouldn’t any competent DAC fix any timing issues on it’s own?
