Does anyone know of a Custom Cable company working in Canada (annoyances paying duty is an issue for me.)
Also allow me to point out you can fucking do this shit ONLINE having to pay duties in person or over the phone is fucking ridiculous
in my adventures in finding the proper dac/amp and headphone combo for me… im thinking that maybe the 58X is just a bit too dark for me… i dont feel as much of an impact in percussion or as pretty of a twinkle in very V shaped energetic tracks. makes me unsure about buying the ifi hipdac and wondering if maybe i should go with the topping instead (or maybe i dont like the sound of an ESS chip in which case the topping would be a waste of money). but it sucks because the 58X do guitar strings just PERFECTLY, listening to an acoustic guitar like the demo for femme fatal by big star or MCRs disenchanted its just beautiful and feels like how it should be… now i have to figure out how to get this perfect amazing clean guitar while still having the ability to make something dirty and intense shimmer and hurt
dark is not something I’ve seen Senn’s described as before, LoL.
perhaps go for something more neutral like the Geshelli ENOG2 Pro and Archel 2.5 Pro
its a little darker compared to the ATH M50s because it felt like songs i already knew the sound of were a bit lower pitched… like it feels like everything is a bit brighter on the M50Xs
also i get a lot more sleepy while listening to it which is not what i want… i usually want a lot more energy (but that just might be that the is not making these loud enough because i dunno how loud is too loud… since my problem is mostly the lack of slam and immediate thump… aka i dont like that i can feel the bass thump before it hits peak)
call me crazy but cause you can seemingly handle the treble on the m50x’s maybe try the 990s?
no one talks about the 990s
i was planning on getting the 770s as the closed back headphone i will use for when i cant use a good open back… the major issue is more that the sennheiser isn’t punchy enough (also my M50s are very burned in and thus it only feels like its maybe semitone higher or so in every pitch than the other)… i feel like i feel the hit before the hit hits
its a good headphone especially if you can handle the treble. would work well with a warm smooth amp like a liquid spark. basically requires it IMO. but the bass isn’t as heavy as the m50 but definitely punchier than the 58x
i dunno… the 58X sound amazing with guitars so i dunno… i was confused whether to do the sundaras, the 6XX (slightly brighter and clearer but might not make everything punchy and loud like i like it… its just on some songs it feels like there shouldn’t be an attack on the bass but i still hear one anyway), or something like the 990/1990
actually nevermind i tested one song i was having the punch issue with and i found that the M50x were too tinny and didn’t have the punch of bass i wanted or the lack of attack i wanted
Maybe try the sr60e or sr80e. If Gutenburg (a reviewer) is to be believed, the whole grado line has great dynamics and are pretty lively sounding. The bass QUANTITY might not be enough but maybe the impact will be more up your alley. Also the treble should be brighter than the HD58X and the mids similarly good. If you don’t like them it’s only $100 at most and you can return them to Amazon.
I’m considering getting a pair (probably the sr80e) so I can have a cheap open back to sit by the fire pit with once fall rolls around. If I do I can compare them to my HD58X for you (I plan to buy them soon if I do buy them).
Edit: Just baught the sr80e. I’ll compare with the HD58X when they arrive on Thursday.
thats really nice
even though grado is a meme i did think about buying a grado at first but i hear they aren’t as good for things like hip hop and electronic music which i really like so i was unsure about that
Here goes my rant. Why so many noobs that six months ago knew nothing about the hobby now decide that suddenly they have to review stuff? And what makes them believe that we care? At least I don’t. Sorry if that came out a bit rude but this is the rants thread after all.
they want to share their awe and amazement.
it’s not too hard to figure out.
Heh, those types of folks have shown up in Audiophilia finally huh?
From a film nerd. I am so sorry.
Wait til you get the audiophile equivalent of letterboxd.
I’ve been a movie nerd since I was ten years old, now I’m fifty and never had the urge to lecture anyone.
By the way, currently watching this collection I got recently:
Nice, my wife was a big time into Hitchcock. We took some road trips to some film locations used in Vertigo, Birds, Shadow of a Doubt, maybe a couple others.
Cool. I have that collection really nice. Apparently the 4k bluray of psycho has an extended preview cut that hasn’t been seen since 1960. I’m currently on a japanese classics bing and am watching the Black Test Car/Black Report set from Arrow Video.
So I shipped off my H40 this morning from the UK back to Hong Kong in order to get the FH3, it cost so much that they’re pretty much the same price now fml
edit AND I don’t even have balanced 2.5 like I did on the H40…
is there any use for having FLAC files on my phone… it just takes up so much more space but i stream a lot on my phone and us it as a spotify (and future tidal) dap and i dunno whether to put a whole FLAC library or just put some AAC/MP3 V0/OGG files on there
