Rant thread - share your grievances, not just audio

2nd time in two months I’ve had to tell someone they’re out of a job. Well, the corporate term is “surplussed”. You see I’m just a mid level corporate cog for an global behemoth that only earns about 180 billion annually. How’s a global behemoth going to make ends meet, when they wind up with a minuscule 25 or 30 billion in free cash flow?

The kicker, they’re blaming it all on Covid-19 and the resulting impact on the economy. Not a word about the outgoing CEO that made bad decision after bad decision over the 13 year tenure, and the company stock value is proportionally down 3% over those 13 years since he took over the reins.

But he “retired” this year (corporate speak for forced out) and is now going to have to give up his 30 million dollar a year salary and have to make end meet with only $279k dollars… a month… for the rest of his life.

It’s all a big fucking joke, a house of cards built on the lie that if the stock market is doing well, then the whole country is doing well. That house of cards is not going to survive 2020.

Thank you for allowing me to vent. First time posting here.

I have a lot of very strong (probably socialist) opinions on executives, business, and corporate America. Yeah, it’s a total fucking wank. A revolution (against the corporate class, not necessarily the government - although at this point the two are nearly indistinguishable) is definitely in order.

Aerosmith summed up my views in three neat little words: Eat the rich. I couldn’t agree more.

I feel that the default ideal should be free market capitalism, however that not me saying I’m against market regulation when there is no competition etc. Basically it doesnt matter the company or organization/entity bad leadership is bad leadership, and it pisses me off lol.

The idea of free market capitalism is a fallacy, it doesn’t exist. In every way shape or form there is an existing foundation in the economy that means you have to integrate with a system that’s already tilted toward advantaging all those already with means.

Capitalism has one goal, no others. Profit and that profit is placed above all other stated objectives no matter how magnanimous or well intention the corporation seems.

Don’t know if you ever played Monopoly as a kid, but that’s capitalism in its purest form. The goal being is to take everything and leave others with nothing. Today’s corporate environment is all about the CEOs running the business to maximize profit for themselves and for the investors. It’s no coincidence that the level of CEO pay has increased from the post WWII American hey days of America can do no wrong, the average CEO pay was about 15 to to 1. Meaning that a CEO would make 15 times what an average employee of that company would make. Today that ration is roughly 3000 to 1.

Want to know about Capitalism? Tesla’s market cap is WAY higher than Ford. At least pre Covid world Tesla was valued in the stock market at more than TWICE what Ford was valued at. Meanwhile back in the real world Ford sales were about 140 Billion while Tesla sales were about 25 Billion.

Capitalism is a fallacy sold to suckers that think they’re going to have a shot at the multi million dollar pipe dream and believe me when I tell you. Unless you’re worth in excess of $100 million dollars today, you’re never going to be in the club. We’re nearing the point in that Monopoly game where someone decides to say fuck this and flips the board up into the air in disgust.

There’s also the fact even basic entrepeneurial ventures are impossible to folks nowadays because of the cost buy in meaning you have to be wealthy or come from wealth. Most successfull start ups are like “my dad loaned me 500,000 dollars.”

Being a filmmaker means you have to have enough money to fail for years, be rich enough to pack up and move to LA and own your equipment before you make it big. Literally a massive discussion in the back ground right now is how exclusionary the film industry is to the poor and non american while the oblivious side falls deeper and deeper into obsession over expensive school pedigrees and legacies.

It even extends to basic social media accounts. Dog rates is a literal scam invented by a trust fund harvard grad who basically exploited memetastic nature of the internets love of dogs so people can send photos of their dogs in, give away likeness and publishing rights so they can get a stupid quip and a number on his feed while he gets to publish your photo on shitty merch and in books.

Absolutely fuming, my H40s are having issues with the right earpiece already, so I am going to send them back tomorrow…

I guess I shall be joining the Fiio FH3 gang lol.

Does anyone have any recommendations for MMCX cables that have the detachable connectors so I can use them as 3.5, 2.5 or 4.4? I preferably dont want to break the bank. Is the DUNU Lyre highly regarded?

Hart audio does that for a pretty good price.

Google killing off good products and never replacing them with anything better - E.g. Chromecast Audio…

:disappointed: :rage:

well, if you can find one, Google says they still support the device.

I have one already. I need to buy one or two more…

I actually sold my two for $60 a couple weeks ago on headfi. I was expecting it sit there for weeks but it sold the same day with multiple people asking about it. So you aren’t the only one who still wants/use them. I recommend just getting one on Ebay right now because the cost them will keep creeping up over time

Why must the reinstallment process for the 4xx pads be so archaic and tedious? Furthermore why must they be so easy to tear, so heccing annoying. My right earpad is close to being completelh busted, and I’m not quite ready to spend $40 to get a new pair of the darn things

Does it have to be Google? There are plenty of high quality BT receivers for audio these days.

Ordered a Hart cable & interconnect set for the Meze 99 ~€85, shipping €35, customs €30

Couldn’t pay the import duty online, some issue with the website of UPS. Driver comes, can only accept cash, which I don’t have enough of. He offers to come back later in the day (very nice of him, it’s super hot today), but asks that I have the exact amount (€27.60).

So I go to an ATM, forget my card pin because I have to use a special card for ATM withdrawals. Go back home, recall the PIN, go back to the ATM, buy some things here and there to get more change.

Go back home, driver does come back. I give him the exact change. Perfect!

Not quite. I had ordered the Nighthawk Carbon in the meantime. Now that has a horrible cable. Literally would have been fine with the stock 99 cable, but was mainly curious about balanced and liked the Hart system (couldn’t find any cheap-ish cable providers in the EU, certainly none with an interconnect system).

So now I want to get another cable for the Nighthawk, but shipping even one cable costs another €35 and I’d have to go through the UPS/customs annoyance again.

I guess I’ll wait until I need more cables.
