In Brazil we have to pay 60% in tax for imported goods, and that’s in total cost (value+shipping). And if you order come from currier companies (DHL, FedEx and the like) you have to pay them an extra fee for “dealing with customs”.
Thats brutal.
Similar Situation up in Canada but not nearly as High (13%)
Yeah same here, they just pile them on. I think I pay 20% VAT on everything, so everything is already 20% more expensive. Then whoever is the courier adds on their own import tax as well as courier handling fees
Norway has 25% “vat” on top of the purchase and shipping cost, and if it is via DHL and such, they usually take a $25-35usd fee to handle the “vat” payment. There is a loophole that there is no fee if the total value of the package is under about $30usd, but if i remember correctly DHL and Fedex still charges a handling fee for checking the value (but i might be wrong on that one, my cheap purchases usually comes by regular mail service).
This makes “cheap” stuff lika a $99usd amp or dac gets a pretty big price increase from the “sticker price” - but still, in most cases ordering from abroad will be cheaper than buying from a store inside Norway (also, the selection of brands/models usually is very poor when it comes to “hifi” equipment, at least in the lower price range)
Yikes, i start jumping up and down for getting charged for 2 day shipping or an order running late.
In Spain is almost exactly the same, the only difference being that instead of 25 Vat is 21.
Why does mega suck a fat one? It will start at like 10MB/s then like 30 sec later drop down to less than 50KB/s and then just sit there like I’m trying to use dile-up. I JUST WANT TO DOWNLOAD A 2GB ZIP FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!
mega? what’s a ‘mega’?
It took over 25 min to download a 2.05GB zip file.
To put this in perspective, I can download a 3.4GB game on steam in 2 min with a max download speed of 36.8MG/s
i hate this constant urge to get the absolute best thing possible… its very OCD enducing
Went looking at 3M’s site for their Command products after recalling they had small shelves in their lineup. The product page for the shelf I was interested in states…
Size: n/a
In the entire history of modern civilization, what human being has considered acquiring a shelf of any sort and not wanted to know how big it was?
thats odd mega for me is usually pretty good but I run wired down to my pc stilll slower than my usual speed but not that awful it would take me a like 4 minutes to download about 2 gigs on mega
My least favorite things as of late. Pre covid I haven’t been able to get any day trips done in Toronto trying to just discover new spots cause when I find someplace new or go to a place where people have suggested to me blog to has already discovered it and made a post about it and made it not a fun spot where I can just do shit in peace. Glad a lot of the places I often visit are still cool and not over crowded
I like buying and ordering goods from everywhere.
Not a single order has been missing or being broken on arrival, though i mainly order more “premium” and everything usually is better vs. something from china in a plastic bag.
There is a big difference on where and what, how the packing and delivery is made.
On what part of ordering the paranoia is? I mean Can - US are like neighbours so… ?
I doubt you have ordered much from around the globe.
Longest distance so far for me in ordering was ~4500miles/7200km.
If the price tag starts to get near the 5 figure numbers, i buy local.
Even when being in 1 of the highest taxing country’s…
GoPros with stereo mics.
They are the worst idea anyone in technology had in the past 10 years!
You get a random imbalance between L and R between cuts in Youtube videos, sometimes 5dB L over R, sometimes the other way round.
How do we have film, radio and TV for over 50 years and still audio is fucky? WHY?!
I can honestly say being in the US I have less issues with orders from China than I do from Canada.
And I’m literally 2 hours drive from Vancouver.
So yeah Neighbors…
Because its secretly the hardest part of the job
Recording audio on location is exceedingly difficult if you dont know what you’re doing
So true. Stuff ships in from China easily - despite us supposedly not getting along well with them. Wanna send something to our friendly neighbors up north where much of the border is just a line of latitude? Ugh. Headache.
