Tonight I A/B tested my FiiO K5 Pro’s DAC against the one in my cheap-as-shit portable CD player using my ESP/95X… I can’t tell any difference in quality. There is no additional noise, no bass roll off, nothing that I can dicern as lacking from the player. idk where to go with this knowledge.
This thing costed me only $10ish 4 years ago. At what point does an external dac actually make sense for audio quality? Admittantly, the FiiO’s DAC measures not that well according to ASR, but will any amount of reasonable money for a DAC buy better sound that I can actually hear? Or does the money go more into the coninvience, versatility, and build quality? Are bits just bits or is there more to DACs that’s actually audiable, not just measurable?
I did have thoughts of buying a new dac and amp stack at one point, but now I’m unsure if a new DAC or even amp would be worth anything. Assuming the transducer is adequately powered, is it wrong to expect audiable improvements in sound from pricier things with better circuitry? Not different, I really mean better.

Not happened today but still mad on what happened last week. Basically it’s like this, you went to that place earlier to play ball with your friends, didn’t get the chance since they wanted to play with their other friends first despite me getting their first, with some patience left I am like “Sure, I’ll play in the next game”. Now, after they are like done playing I thought to myself I can finally play, then suddenly a friend of mine asks me to let them and their visitors to play first instead of me. It began to drizzle a bit earlier, I got mad and thought to myself that I won’t be able to play next since I am like it’s going to rain after this and I won’t be able to play regardless, therefore I pretty much kicked the court’s entrance out of anger and left like bro, I was earlier than most of you guys, yet you are not even going to give me a fucking chance to play some basketball?
You know what’s even worse? It didn’t rain, therefore I was not able to play the final game that I could have played, but I was at that point that I am not feeling playing at that point anymore since they pretty much disrespected me and ruined my day with their bullshit. My uncle wanted me to stay there, but it was too late to take that reason for I was so fucking pissed for them doing that to me.
What is “better”?
More knobs and settings to fiddle with? Higher price? Higher weight?
Or maybe you arrived at your endgame.
Better as in less distortion, noise, etc. Only I was under the wrong impression that there would be an clear, audiable difference between a DAC that does the bare minimum and one that performs better through measurements like SINAD, dynamic range, etc.
As far as things go, I am happy with my K5 Pro because of the versatility of multiple inputs, volume knob, etc. but I don’t think there is any point, at least for me, to upgrade simply for more bells and whistles I probably will never use.

TL;DR dude and some top-notch audiophiles he invited cannot tell the sound quality difference between a realtek codec and expensive external DACs using some expensive headphones.

Getting notifications late
Not too big of a deal, but found myself caught in a bidding war for a pair of Campfire Comets, and didn’t get notified I had been outbid till after the time was up
Ugh, got back negative COVID-19 results… but my condition has been definitely getting worse since the day I tested. Retest after Thanksgiving. Maybe I have the flu or something else, but I’m definitely sick.
Today my hearing is really wonky. Everything sounds slightly veiled like as if I’m listening through my Porta Pro lol. I’m listening to music through my other headphones, but all I can think is “surely they didn’t sound like this before.” Treble hurts my head too.

From experience. I get head colds and sinus infections almost every year. It can feel just as bad or worse than the flu. Youre hearing will be off for like a week after you recover until it literally pops back in.
Mine always get worse before getting better
If yours does trend that way then fluid and tea up. Long steamy showers to clear congestion, sudafed to keep them clear as long as it doesnt dry you out too much. Dont be afraid of rest, there have been times where my body would just take 24 hours easy and i would wake up to eat then back to sleep.

I have an opposite problem. So many good deals on things I’m not interested in or are too expensive.

The fact that USPS delivery to my house gets later and later. The last couple months they don’t show up until 7:30-800PM…
that will be due to lack of manpower due to COVID…and more shipments because of COVID.

Lack of availability of things that you want, scalpers taking advantage of everything and right now, woke up too early as if I didn’t feel any sleep at all even though I did. There are worse things to come but at least I am still breathing and alive like everyone here, trying to survive with some good music.

being honest… EQ seems very scary because its hard to hear the exact changes and what will work perfectly for you… i have seen people who are more objective claim that “oh just buy some cheap transparent amp and dac and then use EQ”
PEACE APO IS COMPLICATED AS HELL… i just want feel comfortable
If anything, me cluelessly fiddling around with EQ made me realize I like headphones for their natural sound signatures. I’m just not a very big fan of EQing everything flat.
Just lost two employees in one day… Full staff is 6. We’re now down to 3.

Not to forget too when they tried to make them remove sorting machines. For me the USPS has been the best but none are flawless. Fedex is second. UPS is guaranteed after 6pm and usually a day or two after they said they delivered.
