đŸ”¶ Raptgo Hook-X

Can you school me on why shallow + wide tips are better for the Hook?

Not sure I can. I just find that to be the case. Perhaps it’s because the bass gets less with wider tip opening, showing the mid and highs to shine through a little more.

It could also be that shallow fit simply brings you closer to the diaphragm which creates a more direct path for the sound and thus more pure detail.

I think you demystified it perfectly. Thanks.

Finally got my set today. First impressions are mostly good, there are some aspects I don’t like but I’ll wait until some burn-in and tip rolling before commenting on them. Overall, they are a 4/5 for the price at the moment. For my tastes, they sound better than Timeless.

Some things you could try, assuming you haven’t;

  1. Shallow, wide tips (Spiral dots come to mind, also E-horn or Spring Tips). Cleans up and highlight more of the midrange.

  2. A powerful & clinical, bright DAC/Amp. Nothing smooth as it’s already quite smooth.

So the metal nozzle filter broke on one earpiece so I removed them both. This opened up the sound marvelously.

Highly recommended if you want optimal SQ at the risk of clogging things with wax.

For me though, the filter was already clogged and affected clarity so it was for the best to remove them.

I’ve found for my ears that because of the Hook’s short nozzle, a taller tip like the Azla Senda EarFit Light works well and fits perfectly on the wide nozzle.

How does one carefully remove the metal filter?

I used a sharp knife, simply poked through the filter and yanked it up. Easy!

Anybody have S12 and Hook x? I sold my timeless when i heard S12 since timeless stage is flat but S12 have more 3d.

Would like to know is it worth to upgrade to hook?

Not worth it. It’s more of a side grade than an upgrade.

They’ll probably release many new interesting sets around 11.11 sale so wait a month before you do anything.

Got it thanks

they want to release new sets just before a period of sales where “old stuff” get huge discounts?! I must admit I don’t really get the point.

Do they rely on the fact that people that pay for discounted products are more willing to pay fo new releases too?

Yes, just like on Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day in the US, people that are shopping for deals are more likely to impulse buy the new shiny thing too. This is the sale of the year that everyone is waiting to spend their money on, so yeah old inventory will move out but the new products will get bought up too!

11.11 is a fantastic day to hold off for in Q4. I remember last year, I picked up the Timeless which was a relatively new release at the time for a $20 Discount. Admittedly not much, but the even older stock units have heavier discounts.

This iem is amazing.
What makes it great is that it brings together coherence, with clean sound and a more than good instrumental separation
Not forgetting the sub bass and the low bass, giving a spectacular punch.
It controls the sibilance, super present and attractive mids
Very very happy with this headphone.

For me Olina was better than Kato. It gave more soundstage and separation while maintaining the naturalness of the Kato. However the Timeless is better than Olina for me.
It gave me a better soundstage construction, more bass, more coherence but required a lot of energy to show off.
This Raptgo improves on the Timeless. It gives me more sub bass, better low end texture, more instrumental separation, controls sibilance a bit better but keeps the Timeless’s crispness. It also requires less power to show off.

Now I want to try a hype headphone like ThieAudio XXXX against these.

What do you think of this one?

Agree with your take on the Hook-X. Astonishing sonically. My favorite set.
It holds up well against many great sets well above its price.
Beyond its excellent and satisfying bass response, the natural tonality I get from guitar plucks and decay is addictive. Vocals are perfectly placed, not too forward nor recessed. Vocal texture too.
If the Hook-X leaves me wanting for anything, it would be a little more instrument separation and space during busier/congested sections of tracks.

Lack of separation is sometimes due to lack of power in planars. Might help?

Absolutely worthy trying.
I’m a believer in more power than necessary.
I hooked up my Hook-X to a Jotunheim (not mine) recently and it did seem to have more “bigness” but also too much warmth for an already somewhat warm’ish set. But gave me an idea to try with something cleaner next time.
